Which Modling Job: Rates or MBS

Depends which bank too... if it's GS/MS/JPM, go for the rates, that's what made the most money last year. Of course that's subject to change this year.Take either position and then try like hell to get out of risk management and into a proper front office spot. Sales and Trading FTW!

Help with Job Choice

Never ever move away from client facing to non-client facing... never front office to back office. Risk is back office. Once you go to the back, it will be like swimming up a waterfall to go to front office again.

I'm trying to do the same thing, so I don't know. If anyone else has any insight, I'd be all ears.

Master's Student, Looking for Career Pointers

Best advice: FRONT. OFFICE. BUY. SIDE.if not buy side, then front office at a tier 1 bank. Only do Sales, Trading, or Investment Banking. Never do back or middle office.

MS Phone interview help please

<t>These interviews all depend on the actual person you talk to. You have to have instant and total recall of everything you ever learned and know the answer as soon as the question is asked.I've done several phone screens with MS's strats/modeling teams and here are some of the questions I got:1. G...

Is it still possible to get FO jobs without experience?

<t>Going FO is 99.9999999% who you know, how high up they are, and how influential they are. Also, it could be that you just didn't pass the interview. In my experience, you have to answer every question 100% correctly. When interview books and recruiters say that interviewers want to "see your though...

How to get a desk quant job if you're in the back office tech?

<t>Going to resurrect this thread with some new questions...I ended up leaving the tier 1 bank where I was doing credit risk reporting to go to an index provider (weird, I know). This ended up being even less quantitative than anything I've done. All their "models" were in Excel. I have no idea why ...

Suckby-Jerkings: Non-Liking

<t>They've only ever gotten me one proper FO quant interview. I flubbed it after the recruiter told me to focus on stochastic calculus and I was asked completely different questions for which I was unprepared. Most recruiters will see your profile (e.g. you're in risk) and will NOT contact you for pr...
