Re: Simple LSE optimisation

List1, there is no randomness, no gaussian assumption. I have a set of fit residuals that I minimize with least squares. It seems that you should assume stochastic setting. Otherwise you could say only for a given fixed set of data and talk about arithmetic average of the data deviation. Such setti...

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

Nah, Euro is fine by me. You've been in the USA too long. Whether EUR is good or not for all EU countries we need to look at countries govdebt and budget deficit. It seems it was upper bound of 3% do not remember whether it value of govdebt or budget deficit. I think in current EU countries conditi...

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

I think that starting point for United Europe is that EU should return to national currencies and EUR should be adjusted to a crypto currency. It likes a new basic alphabet for Europe.. Re: Simple LSE optimisation

So, to clarify the issue, you are assuming the true data generating process is [$]y_i = f(x_i,\theta) + u_i[$], where [$]u_i[$] is an i.i.d. error with zero mean and presumably finite variance?  Then the issue is whether or not the nonlinear least squares estimated residuals [$]\hat{u_i} \equiv y_i...

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

I think at your final destination Trump and Angela will meet you with Flower bouquets and if there are no sanctions more it might be some from Russians will also  join though it is not clear at this moment.  You are bullish? FYI Trump will be out in 50 days and BREXIT will take 7 years. O'k with th...

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

Brexit could not be justified as good or bad for British. It has attractive and say bad attributes for expectations of different people. On the other hand there is  economical-financial point which include FTSE rate, GBP rate with respect USD, EUR, JPY and others in a year and more distant periods. ...

Re: Close form formula vs Simuations

A good rule of thumb would be to always use a closed form solution if you have it, unless it is expressed in terms of special functions that are difficult to evaluate numerically. mathematica or similar can evaluate those special functions 'mathematica or similar' do not represent either closed or ...

Re: loc. volatility & BSE

I am trying to comprehend the following problem.  Riveting. In closed-form or by simulation? Any time frame? First is a model which can be represented explicitly by a closed form or implicitly which calls for applying an approximation in say finite difference form or simulation. The difference betw...

Re: Impending Birth - Not Being Present

Not bad. My first thought was that it's either a really ugly girl or a very handsome boy. All the best to your family! you're so binary There is no third choice: either boy or girl. On the other hand "either really ugly girl' or 'handsome boy' sounds too strong.  I remember when my two girls were y...

Re: Close form formula vs Simuations

Assume for example we need to calculate integral [$]\int_{0}^{t} x^{3} dx[$]. We can get the close form [$]\frac{t^4}{4}[$] or to use a discrete approximation of the integral. What does the better way to calculate integral for different t?  At least we do not know why does the answer should be chang...

Re: Charlottesville

It seems that taking off monuments or sculptures do not solve any white-black problem in US or in other countries.  There are white and black supremacists. Meanwhile no black communities have applied to dismantle Lee or other North leaders. It looks like Democrats are trying to get more votes in nex...
