The Longest Day of the Year

<t>Quotewhat's the point for the day to be the longest of the year if it's raining all day long? Particularly when you've been waiting for that day all year long. PS I didn't realise it could rain all day long over NYC. I thought the weather conditions in large metropolitan areas have made that no l...

Profound Quotes

Sous le pont Mirabeau coule la Seine,Et nos amours faut-il qu'il m'en souvienne,La joie venait toujours apres la peine.Vienne la nuit, sonne l'heure,Les jours s'en vont, je demeure.Guillaume Apollinaire.

In Case It Gets Buried in the News in America...

<t>What's the story on what happened in Riyadh then in Casablanca over the past few days? I thought terrorism is under control! And did the allies find WMD's in Iraq? What's going on? In yesterday's local newspapers, the Australian prime minister is calling the reservists to form permanent anti terr...

What are the forward and backward equations?

FP now applies??? You've changed your mind again??? Stop wasting my time and everyone else's with your garbage. This is the very last time that I will respond to anything you say.

What are the forward and backward equations?

If you wait long enough, take as many data as you can, that would probably be perfectly Gaussian. Anyway, whatever it is, it's not the subject of this thread. Let's cut out this garbage and get back to FP equations.

What are the forward and backward equations?

<t>Quote I fully agree with you, but I was talking about stochastic processes in general, not just one class of stochastic processes (those that are defined by your stochastic differential equation).I have no idea what you are talking about -- You wish to discuss a class of stochastic processes that...

What are the forward and backward equations?

<t>Quote A quick & dirty way to see why they should be different is that FP eqn coefficient are dependent on the sde's drift & diffusion coefficients, and Ito/Stratonovitch interpretation of the "same sde" lead to different processes (different drift). So the resulting FP eqns are different....

What are the forward and backward equations?

<t>Quote Fokker-Planck is one of many PDEs that determine the PDFs for stochastic processes. Why pick this FP?? In effect, you're choosing a model.Wrong again. Given a stochastic process (which is the model), specified by a stochastic differential equation, the FP equation is, by definition, the PDE...

Poincare Conjecture Solved

Quote Even the Greeks were adding fractions. Nevermind positive whole numbers. 800AD Al Jabr was solving quadratics.Do you mean Al Khawarizmi?

What are the forward and backward equations?

<t>Quote Can someone explain the relationship between FP and quantitative finance? Option price distributions never look like those predicted by FP. Could FP be the wrong model? You are confusing things. Fokker-Planck is not a model. Fokker-Planck is a PDE for the PDF of a stochastic process. You sol...

<t>The only relevance of physics to finance is that you may have situations in these two respective subjects (e.g. diffusion in physics and approximate behaviour of stock prices in finance) that are described by the same PDE (e.g. heat equation). If that is the case, and if the physicists have alrea...

<t>I think I've mentioned earlier that in one of the latter papers of Hochberg et al, they claim that the noisy, massless Burgers equation (related to KPZ by a simple change of variables) exhibits dynamical symmetry breaking in low dimensions. It is not to difficult to come up with models for the sho...

Lie-algebraic approach

I'm not so sure what A_t and B_t stand for, but, off hand, I expect that if they driven by uncorrelated noise, then the naive product rule applies.
