Re: Cheap way to transfer money?

Transferwise uses a peer to peer model that matches equal-and-opposite exchanges.  You end up depositing your CHF directly into someone else's local CHF account at the same time that the other person deposits EUR into your EUR account.  No foreign exchange is actually done and the transfers avoid c...

Re: Cheap way to transfer money?

Thank you ISM. Exchange rate is not fixed? Sorry I'm dumb. You mean that the exchange rate shown the day the client proceeds on TW website may not be the one actually applied? ( = client doesn't for sure in advance the actual amount that will be transferred) Transferwise uses a peer to peer model t...

Does this thing have a name you are talking about? Looks like a Cauchy surface to me https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cauchy_surface t ime  moves in one direction. Sure about that? Can we prove it or is it just one's imagination? why are people getting old, at least seems correlated to the flow of tim...

What do you mean, outrun?
The fridge shows the snow animation for the weather today :-) (It was terribly cold today, at most 17C, but it's certainly not a winter.) I think my IoT went loco.
Perhaps the IoT sensor fell in the freezer.

Re: Cheap way to transfer money?

Transferwise is cheaper because it doesn't guarantee instant transfer time nor fixed exchange rate. Most of the times it won't matter, but you might be surprised if you were exchanging USD for some volatile currency. It's the same as with "cheap brokers" like deGiro who turn out to rehypo...

Looks spoiled, almost full MC.. that's pretty far from minimal spanning.  You can still save it, but it'll cost you log log log n time.
The only rational thing to do is make some Dedekind cuts.

"5. Find the last digit of pi"
3, it is the same as the first one!
Is it a palindrome? Does pi = ip?

Re: Stupid question of the day

tt is a weeping willow. It is suffering from watermark sickness. It is rust in peace. It was planted by the previous owner to the memory of his daughter who fell into the adjoining waterway and drowned. That's so sad! But on the literal bright side, the recommended treatment is felling and burning ...

Re: California: Here comes Ahnoooold!

reading the legislation tells me that it seems to be a half-truth not a "no" because there are fines but the fines apply to the supplier not the householder There's a paragraph (paragraph (a)) omitted in the article So it seems that the answer is that it's not against the law in Californi...

With enough molehills, you can make a mountain. BTW our willow tree of > 80 years has not grown any leaves this year. The willow whisperer will inspect it tomorrow. Anyone with experience of willow trees and their issues? Should we talk to it?> I hope your willow is not pining for the fjords! Is th...

Re: California: Here comes Ahnoooold!

a question to californians: is this story accurate? Now It’s Against the Law in California to Shower and Do Laundry on the Same Day and if so, how would the fines be levied? is it done by monitoring every single day or do they use an average over some period? The simple answer is “no”, as about fiv...

Re: Stupid question of the day

When are moles going to learn/evolve to make smaller molehills?
When everyone carefully kills all the big molehill moles but lets the small molehill moles live and breed. Continuous filtering on the median will drive evolution to ever smaller molehills.
