Re: guess a country

I woke up to a “vision” last week too. What shape can you see on my cheek?

Re: Politicized science

The most frustrating part for me is that we even have tools and means to design the fine-grained targeted policies. There's enough data, numerical method and computational power to write simulations a la psychohistory from Asimov's Foundation (as someone told me was what I was really doing! :-D): fr...

Re: Politicized science

Don't know any Dutch, but Swedes are very sociable and tend to hang out in larger groups a lot. Doesn't happen in Norway :-) Also the population concentrates in the southern 1/3 of the country. Go to Torino (particularly hit by Covid afair) and to Stockholm in the summer and the difference in the av...

Re: Politicized science

" I used Norway and Denmark to compare with Sweden in order to minimize effects of cultural and demographic differences." That's imho a very incorrect assumption. I'd be tempted to make it myself if I haven't lived in Norway for the last couple of years (and didn't know from experience in ...

Re: GCHQ latest

I thought the road marking was 8-bit ASCII: three 1's and five 0's or the other way around, but only the first I check can represent a blank space. I also checked Gestuno for sign language, but spread fingers are a non-English letter: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e8/Manalfabeto.p...

Re: GCHQ latest

I was looking at French flag on the bottle too. It turns out colours can be used to represent British alphabet: colorAlphabet (omniglot.com)
But I'm not even sure how to match the colours: O_N?

The 3 hands before with finger spread-together-spead could be Morse _._? K

Re: GCHQ latest

You probably noticed Y in Braille on the TV box carried by the helicopter (could be something also in the windows). Also looks like sign language going on on the roof.

Do you validate these models on out of sample data? Can help to see what they are missing.
