Software Engineering with Third World DevelopmentWho says graduates these days with computer science/software engineering degrees don't know anything? Just check out this exciting new degree course.Quotea special emphasis is given to the lived experience of third world and developing countries with detailed discussions of gender relations, popular culture and politics; the course then considers the extent to which the third world is an integral part of global society and the ways in which its cultures have helped to shape the societies of the West.

Do we wish to replicate the West? LOlAnd it looks rubbish. Spend your 27K on something else, like a trade, for example.

I agree with Cuch on arrogance.BTW, at a glance, Why not "Software Engineering with Third World Development"?But, I don't get well how they combines "software engineering" and "third world development" reading their course outline.

I wonder if this is the result of some combinatoric degree creator. The two halves of the degree description read like a cut-n-paste job. They probably also offer "Astronomy with Third World Development", "English Literature with Third World Development", and "Chemistry with Third World Development"

The dumbing down of CS education started a long time ago. Here we have Technical Informatics (TI) and Business Informatics (BI). The latter is a mix of HTML and Prince II project management tools as a preparation for industry. Just don't ask what a matrix is.As Dominic says, students learn quiche languages. Dijkstra was right.

my pet hate are degrees in Commerce ... mankind has been buying/selling/storing for millennia yet we feel now we must train people in commerce.

I have taken a similar degree myself: "third world software development and engineering" - ie MSc in Comp Science in Lisbon, Portugal.

Well, CS education (almost) everywhere is not what it used to be. But I am not a CS graduate so I might have missed something. It's all about the numbers. Again, see Dijkstra's video.

the stupidest IT education is in business schools, so called MIS. the stuff they study would make me vomit, like utility of technology or database design.
