Digital format book for math, still and issue?

May 27th, 2018, 4:54 pm

last time I looked into digitalizing books to go on Kindle platform or similar (such as sold on amazon) then it caused errors with formulas. It has been a well known problem for books with equations I think. Pdf file method works fine, but mot electronic book platforms do not do pdf.

anyone know if this has been improved in recent years?

and when will someone make a nice live-math book format, where one on touch screen or by voice can input numbers in equations and get results out.

Kindle is bad, but PDF is good as digital format.

Wouldn't python notebooks (jupyter) be more appropriate than wolfram cdf? Python notebooks are very common in the scientific community and do not rely on proprietary software.

If Wolfram is following their usual business model, the software for authoring CDFs would cost $$$ but the software for reading and using a CDF would be free.

A cdf book is a very interesting idea! But, since it should cost the reader to buy it, it looks like you need a custom license

Wolfram then becomes a middleman?

Is Microsoft the middleman if one licenses Word/Excel/Powerpoint from them?

Not particularly. I was just noticing how much of everything we do depends on third-party software sitting between ourselves and our business. It feels like a new kind of middleman, no?

Are ISVs still in existence or are they being sucked up by the big boys? Remember Oracle and Autodesk started with two guys in a shed.
What's the 'psyche' these days?

Example: are there AI packages out there  or do developers piggy back on TensorFlow et al?
