Speaking of Poles, do we think Brexit would have happened if Poland had not been included in the 2004 EU enlargement?

Definitely Brexit would never have happened if the UK had not been included in the 1973 EC enlargement.

Unless they joined earlier, or later. 1973 was the right time; strikes, 3-day work weeks and Slade.

According to Lord Ashcroft's poll, immigration was one of two major reasons for Brexit: “to regain control over immigration and its own borders”.
I did some demographic and migration data analysis before the referendum, and I was wondering whether the A8 immigration wave (the 1 mln of plumbers and nurses just from Poland in 2004) was only a wafle-thin mint. Obviously, there's always been a lot of immigration settling in the UK (e.g. drawn here from the colonies - but also Italy - to restart the economy after WW2), granted the citizenship over time (e.g. The British Nationality Act from 1948). In 2001 ethnic minorities (citizens or not) were 12.5% of the population. In 2011 this group increased to 19.5% (based on UK Census data). All EU nationals were ca 23% of it. The immigration from Asia has been increasing and birth rates in these groups growing. I once met an elderly English gentleman who told me that he voted for Remain, because he'd rather have Eastern Europeans come here than "them".

Where do you stand on the following?:

1. Die!
If you don't have guts to kill someone, don't wish him dead. You know, for every action there's a reaction and some reactions are quite a f*cking thing.

You do you. Given the frequency most of us get around to killing someone, you can pretty safely shorten that maxim to “don’t wish other people dead.”

The Swedish sickness is a political as well as a medical disaster. Professor Johan Giesecke, an adviser to the Swedish government alongside Tegnell, became a star of the rightwing web as he lectured other governments on the futility of their tough measures. British Conservative commentators have boomed out claims that Sweden showed there was no need to close the UK economy. Sweden had “held its nerve”, they gushed, in much the same way communists once gushed about the Soviet Union. They praised Johnson for holding his nerve for a few weeks while he let the virus run amok, but damned him as a “scaredy cat” and “pant-wetter” as he U-turned and locked Britain down. Don’t be too quick to scoff at pundits who never made it out of the prep-school playground. They may talk like prepubescents but their readers are running and wrecking the country.
