comma, Norsk komma - (musikk) Lite intervall mellom to enharmoniske tone stemt på forskjellige måter.
Pythagoras is the great-grandfather of the music theory! He's the author of just intonation, which is a much more natural to human ear tuning than the modern temperament tunings.

Has irony disappeared on social media?

Irony (from Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning 'dissimulation, feigned ignorance'[1]), in its broadest sense, is a rhetorical device, literary technique, or event in which what on the surface appears to be the case or to be expected differs radically from what is actually the case.

“It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn't only the synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word which is simply the opposite of some other words? A word contains its opposite in itself. Take 'good,' for instance. If you have a word like 'good,' what need is there for a word like 'bad'? 'Ungood' will do just as well--better, because it's an exact opposite, which the other is not. Or again, if you want a stronger version of 'good,' what sense is there in having a whole string of vague useless words like 'excellent' and 'splendid' and all the rest of them? 'Plusgood' covers the meaning, or 'doubleplusgood' if you want something stronger still...In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words--in reality, only one word. Don't you see the beauty of that, Winston?”

Though Americans use only one word, “whine,” the British use both: “whining” covers a variety of meanings, including sounds made by people, animals, or inanimate objects, and “whingeing” (also spelled “whinging”) is more specifically for peevish or fretful complaining. The British sometimes use the terms together for emphasis: “Stop your whingeing and whining!”

What's wrong with 'Whinging'?

A non-native English screecher would probably say

there are many kinds of fishes in the North Sea but less fishes than previously.

I am doing my first pass at 2020 taxes today - an unprecedented achievement since it is not the night before they are due.

In other singular and plural news - I have new trail running shoes - snow has melted and it is a balmy 30 degrees F.

Enjoy your evening and happy new year.  Maybe revive the resolutions thread in a few days?

You can't fool me; that's our own Leviathan!

U hebt door uw kracht de zee gespleten en de koppen van monsters op het water verpletterd, U hebt de hoofden van Leviathan verbrijzeld, hem als voedsel gegeven aan de dieren in de woestijn. (Psalm 74:13-14)
