"You will see an increased police presence today, including armed officers and uniformed officers. There is no reason to be alarmed by this"

I imagine that the only way to vote for Zac Goldsmith was to get royally stoned. I was wondering why they would put up the worse possible candidate many times until today, when the two main political threads crossed in my mind: Goldsmith - any kinship with the £££Referendum Party£££ leader?

An increase in police presence would be because of an expected increase in the risk of terrorism. The question is then whether the increased police presence in part or wholly balances that increase. After one has done a careful study of the pros and cons one can rationally decide whether or not to be more or less alarmed than before.

Or you can skip straight to being alarmed to be on the safe side.

Stay Calm and become watchful. Watchfulness is not the same as being alarmed.
Stay away from large crowds and parties. Stay out of crowded pubs. 
An increased police presence will make people feel safer but the danger will remain the same. Terrorists will simply target civilians in the places that have fewer police officers or just attack the police first.
