UK gvt, NHS, ATKearney, PR and taxpayers money.

You might have read in the news today that ATKearney advised the gvt to sack 10% of the NHS staff in order to save money, and that the government refused. The immediate reaction to such news is that the gvt is good, the gvt puts HNS, and health on top of money.Another reaction is that AT Kearney people are a nit stupid and heartless. But the news is in fact that the gvt is paying ATKeaney people to do such studies!!! And with our money!!!!And in the end to do some PR operation and look good!!So, to recape: we pay gvt with taxes, they pay ATkearney with our taxes in order to do a mindless proposal. They do a PR op by refusing that proposal.Nice!

here's ppauper's advice to the UK government:(i) eliminate the NHS and return to a free market system of healthcare.(ii) Regardless of whether they implement recommendation (i), train a shitload more doctors. If they train enough, they can pay NHS doctors half of the current salaries and still have plenty of applicants for those positions

Maybe they should have called the Governments bluff. Released a statement recommending the government INCREASE spending 10% and watch them squirm as they figure out how they're going to pay for it.But as a consultant I'd be more than comfortable turning up every 2 or 3 years, being the pantomime villain and make the government look good for a nice fee. Next time I'd recommend switching off all of the premature baby incubators and using the extra electricity to fund more vending machines, (that sell confectionary and condoms - so kids can buy both of them easily when they want to).Herd - Agree, why commission a report that will make recommendations you can't possibly use?Anthis - I don't, but I can have a few guesses...ppauper - i) Maybe we should do a like-for-like swap with Obama so he can have the "evil socialised healthcare system" he's always wanted? Personally I think we should all have the Canadian healthcare system and wonder why you don't stick up for it more often on these forums - No system is perfect, ofcourse.ii) I disagree. This is a global economy. There are plenty of well-trained, low-cost, mobile doctors out there already. They work in second and third world countries and we can poach them at half the price of a doctor we actually had to pay good money to train for 7 years. What does the third world need doctors for anyway? It's not like they can afford the medicine or equipment.....

Various drugs are unavailable in canada because they're too expensive. The list goes on
