Cardinal McCarrick, Bill Clinton’s longtime spiritual advisor, has been charged with the rape of a minor

he's described as the Cardinal emeritus of Washington, D.C., whatever a cardinal emeritus is (retired but keeps the rank?)

from wiki
In 2009, McCarrick spoke at the graveside service of U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy at Arlington National Cemetery and read from a letter Kennedy had written to Pope Benedict XVI.
On July 5, Fordham University rescinded an honorary degree and other honors it had granted McCarrick.

Mea (maxima??) Culpa

https://www.rte.ie/news/world/2018/0817/985662-vatican/

She said the statement spoke about complying with civil law in terms of the mandatory reporting of child abuse, but she said it did not say church leaders must report abuse in countries where such reporting is not mandatory.

"Victims should know that the pope is on their side," the Vatican said in a statement
They should, but unfortunately they don't, at least with Lenin's pope in the vatican

a Spanish cardinal told a Spanish newspaper on Sunday that homosexuality was a physical "defect" like high blood pressure and that many homosexuals could be cured with "proper treatment".
Why not a proof-of-concept project on his colleagues?

you should forward your suggestion to francis

From elsewhere, 80% of the victims are male.

Meanwhile, as little as two months ago, Francis attacking President Trump for defending the border, saying he supported the statements made by US Catholic bishops who called the separation of children from their parents “immoral” and “contrary to our Catholic values.”
Francis has made no such statement about pedophiles in the catholic church raping children.

It's hard to stomach Francis accusing the president of child abuse for stopping illegal immigration while at the same time Francis turns a blind eye to pedophiles in the catholic church raping children.

Francis also failed to mention that the catholic church has a financial interest in lax border security. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops received $176 million in federal contracts for refugee resettlement in 2015 and 2016 (obama years) alone.

Cardinal Blase Cupich, the Archbishop of Chicago, gave an interview with NBC News, and when asked about Francis rehabilitating an abusive American cardinal, said the pope has a “bigger agenda” to worry about, such as protecting the environment and migrants

'The Pope Has a Bigger Agenda': Cardinal Cupich
“The pope has a bigger agenda. He’s gotta get on with other things, of talking about the environment and protecting migrants and carrying on the work of the Church,” Cardinal Cupich said.
“We’re not going to go down a rabbit hole on this,” he added.
That explains everything.
Francis is too busy fighting global warming and the wall to worry about cardinals molesting children

I was reading a random book the other day that had a clever plot twist at the end. After seeing the error of his ways the pope fired all the cardinals and then resigned. Since a new pope can only be elected by the college of cardinals, and cardinals can only be appointed by the pope, this nicely decapitated the church. In real life one suspects there would be complications to such a happy ending...

This is a classic example of a race condition

BTW there was a Gaelic academic cardinal (Tomas O Fiach (he preferred to be just called 'Tom')) in our family from my mother's side from South Armagh. He was president of the Pontifical university Maynooth where I used to teach numerical analysis back in the mists of time.

Years later I met him with Mrs. Cuchulainn and within 10 seconds he recalled the name of my daughter who was a bit sick. He never failed to send a Christmas card.
