oh, the remake - good to go back to the original Wicker Man too.

Also good to be careful in bars at any age.  :D

Sad for the willow tree.

Willow Poem

It is a willow when summer is over,
a willow by the river
from which no leaf has fallen nor
bitten by the sun
turned orange or crimson.
The leaves cling and grow paler,
swing and grow paler
over the swirling waters of the river
as if loath to let go,
they are so cool, so drunk with
the swirl of the wind and of the river—
oblivious to winter,
the last to let go and fall
into the water and on the ground.

- William Carlos Williams

So, -20 degrees F with wind chill today.  Bracing.

And the neighbor's willow tree is swaying back and forth....

The Four Quartets read by Alec Guinness
A glass of Scotch, candlelight, and a fire in the wood stove.  Perfect.

In the post-colonial era, the old imperial arrogance is no longer supported by ruthless pragmatism, but by blundering incompetence.

No doubt about the bumbling incompetence, but perhaps a trace of pragmatism can be found if you assume that the sole objectives are the preservation of power for self and party?

A very senior GP once told me that the way to diagnose if somebody has the flu or a cold is by asking them to imagine a £50 note lying on the floor. If they’d get out of bed for it, they probably don’t have the flu!

Poor unfortunate Linda Evangelista must have had really really  chronic influenza all through the 90s to not get out of bed for 10k.
My heart bleeds for her.

The nature of the industry: those girls earned more staying in bed, not to mention the potential bonus of getting pregnant with some billionaire and demanding a proportionally high child support.
I sometimes wish I was a woman... I've got all the assets for that!

He started by forging "Birmingham Groats", then moved on to Guineas, French Pistoles, crowns and half-crowns, Banknotes and lottery tickets. At various times he also made and sold dildos" — eventually proven guilty of high treason by Sir Isaac Newton, Master of the Royal Mint

"Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new." -- "Lathe of Heaven", Ursula K. Le Guin
My prayers have been heard: the leaven hasn't died without food for two weeks. A new baking tip: I remove my breads from the form and put back it in the oven for extra 10 minutes to give them an extra crust.
