university -> finance (again!)

October 15th, 2007, 6:31 pm

Hi all,have been reading this forum for a while but its the first time i post a message to ask some advice.I recently obtained a Phd in Theoretical Physics and im keen to move into finance. I have a decent knowledge of stochastic calculus,pricing techniques and martingales theory, (throughself studying), at the moment im trying to get better on C++.How can i test if im ready to get a job in finance?What could be a project one should be able to solve which involves both analytics and numerics? Is there any practical book you would suggest?Im currently living in Italy, should i move (to London) when im more or less sure to get a job in a reasonable amount of timeor should i send applications right now (but would they pay for travel exepenses?) ?Any comment/advice will be very appreciated.Best RegardsC

See adjacent thread on Brigo and Mercurio's fascinating careers! Stay in Italy (go to Milano) ;-) A part from that, you seem to have more than needed... best of luck...
