It's amazing the difference in salary between front office and risk management.Front office VP between 120 and 150 k£Model Val Expert in Risk Management with 8+ in experience 85 k£That's simply ridiculous...Moreover for a starting position as Quantitative Analyst FO (so between 40 k£ and 55 k£) what stays after you had paid taxes and rent for a decent flat in central Citi London? Not so much in my opinion. I'll talk for my case. "Quant finance" was attractive when the personal wealth ("=salary-taxes-rent-cost of living in London") was at least 2 times higher than my prospects in other jobs.In my case with my new job (far less sexy than "FO Quant") I earn 41ke which translates into between 18 and 20ke of "personnal wealth" for a 90 squared meter house with garden and 3 bedrooms at 1hr of Paris. Wonder what would be the price of this in London...Raw salary means NOTHING. What is important is what is left at the end of the month after you paid everything.

These figures are wrong at least in top tier IBs. VP model val would be 80-100k£ + 40-50% bonus and VP FO quant would be 120k£ + 0-100% bonus.

@Gamal: Germany is one of the country I'd love to work in. Actually I did for one year in Aachen. At the moment I'm seriously thinking about strongly increase my German level to try to have a "middle career" experience in Deutschland. I really enjoyed the people and the country. And in Aerospace & Defense, DE is one of the European leaders.@Edouard: You have to define what is important for you. For me the most important are:-having a job in which I learn new thing everyday especially outside my core expertise-growing in responsability in the management ladder-having some international experiences-participating in uncertain and challenging high tech projects-be recognized for my achievementsa friend of mine working in the same field has TOTALLY different priorities:-becoming an expert in his specialized field-having a "safe" job without stress -working very close to Paris and not move-prefers salary to career pathIt's really a matter of tastes.

Also willkommen! Knowledge of German (even with a strong French accent) would be benefficial but not necessary, everybody speaks English. In my view Germany is strongly undervalued.

I'm starting to think we're the outliers.

I'm starting to think we're the outliers.Even if the numbers are somewhere higher, the ratio remains the same. And it's quite likely, you're an outlier. Nobody cares about MV in most banks, so there may be some, where it works the way it should. If nobody cares, nobody will put an effort to spoil it.
