I wanted to ask about comparing career opportunities of the following:1) risk management, model validation role in the middle office of top bank.2) algorithmic trading position in smaller 'buy-side' company. This would be the first job and I wonder in which role I could learn more. The actual work, as far as I understand, is equally interesting in both cases even though rather different. If something does not work out in the future, which possibility has more career changing options?

What would be the main reason(s)?

Banks appear to be pretty miserable places to work these days.

That makes a lot of sense. On the other hand I sort of expected that if working at middle office, generally, stress levels and working hours are lower as compared to the front office. Or the situation at the middle office is just slightly better as compared to the rest of the bank but still much worse as compared to the buy-side?
