Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

I am briefly in The Netherlands. I was told that the Dutch see the British as an irritation within the EU. So I said we were the irritation in the oyster that makes the pearl.

Without that pearl the oyster looks like something a Dutch footballer spat onto the pitch.

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

I just hope it ends in March. The media's obsession over Brexit is obnoxious. Instead of just the Tory party "banging on about Europe", we've got the whole country doing the same. On one hand we’ll have nothing to talk about on the internet. On the other, in real life, we’ll have no conve...

In absolute terms, no.

Relative to the EU, yes. Or rather I would hope that we would be better able to respond. Depends how much Remoaners and Brexiteers blame each other!

EU airports not prepared for No Deal: https://news.sky.com/story/eu-airports-unable-to-cope-with-safety-risks-of-no-deal-brexit-leaked-memo-reveals-11502372 Almost worth booking a flight to Schiphol for 1 April 2019 to watch the chaos. Looks like the EU are sleepwalking into a No Deal situation, the...

He’s probably getting emails meant for me. I hope he likes calculus.

Re: How do you deal with tele-scams and cold-calling salesmen?

This is not about cold calling, or even spam, but about emails going to the wrong address... I sometimes get emails for a PW based in NYC. He’s a PR person. Today I got an email intended for him about a limo pickup for one of his clients. So if anyone wants Elle Macpherson’s mobile number... Tough. ...

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

I can't help thinking you've got things backwards. I'm pretty certain that food is quite high up on the list of necessities of life, and that most people don't have the means or facilities for producing it themselves. So in any sensible economic system you'd expect farmers to do quite well. My train...

FAKE NEWS! You can't build a mediaeval watchtower. You can only build a replica.

Somebody please tell him that Iron Man isn't a documentary. Before he hurts himself.

Re: Fake news

I expect that the statistically estimated number was not an integer. Someone decided to make it an integer to make it look more real, then rounded up or down. I find that more interesting.

It will limit what we can talk about. I will not be able to make any jokes. So basically I won’t be able to open my mouth in this person’s presence!

The US sales tax is as complex as VAT. Say nothing about their income tax! I work with many US immigrants, I know how much more complex their tax system is from ours.

I love the US system of online payment...you fill in details online and the bank prints out a physical cheque which they then post!

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

This is not very helpful. Do I bring it up in conversation or not? Is it better to be honest and upfront or pretend it didn't happen?
