Re: Wow!

sorry, I can't resist commenting here... should we really be surprised?  https://www.federalreserve.gov/monetarypolicy/bst_recenttrends.htm It's really meaningless, though. If the M2/M3 haven't been doing their job in providing liquidity, then the FED intervenes by pumping M0. M2 has a total supply...

Re: Is the Nasdaq blowing higher than the fundamentals?

I wrote about this here: https://omarabid.com/zero-rates-world

My guess is that investors think that zero or negative rates are going to stay for a long-term. This will dis-proportionally affect stocks with low P/E but high expected future payoffs.

Re: Is free trade the problem?

before one decides whether free trade is the problem, one needs to define free trade. The so-called "free trade" agreements are more often than not managed trade. TPP (transpacific partnership) was 5,000 pages long. Congressman Ron Paul always used to say that an actual free trade agreeme...

Anyone getting into Rust

Anyone heard about the language? Decided to give it a try but it looks that it lacks in the quant/math department.

Re: End of bitcoin?

I have been out of bitcoin for a while though I still hold a nice five figures amount of it that inflated as of late (even despite the massive drop). It's interesting how many supposedly smart people carry on to be in denial about it here. Despite it going from 0 to 1 to 100 to 1000 to 10000 to 200...

Re: End of bitcoin?

@Traden4Alpha I'll try to address some of your questions. 1. Starting from 8 August, bitcoin will be able to support theoretically infinite txs/second. The segwit upgrade will enable the lightening network which enable users to transact off-chain how much they want and settle later on the bitcoin bl...

Re: End of bitcoin?

I don't disagree with that. It's hard to come up with numbers, though. How many investors are in for the very long haul; and how many are just speculating for the short term. I can also see a class of rather conservative investors: Bitcoin futures used to offer 100% yearly return yield on premium on...

Re: End of bitcoin?

@Alan I'm not sure what your job is, but what you are saying makes no sense. That's like some guy going to Asia and saying that Japanese dolls are stupid. Well, Hello Kitty might be a stupid idea to the west but it made its creator a billionaire. The fact that you don't need bitcoin doesn't apply to...

Re: End of bitcoin?

You guys here are mentioning every crash but failing to mention that every crash still has a higher price than the previous one. You are being intrinsically bearish on bitcoin because you don't understand it. That being said, I reduced my bitcoin exposure to practically 0. While I'm bearish on the o...

Re: End of bitcoin?

I would not trade for entertainment. It's trap. You lose some, feel bad, then lost more. A vicious cycle. If you are looking to trade professionally, then you need some basics to start: a good finance/economics background, programming abilities (or at least proficient in R), knowledge of the market ...

Re: End of bitcoin?

oh Alan I thought you are that rich! There is kraken which is US based and doesn't have such requirements. Why do you want to trade a market where you are emotionally biased and have no inner knowledge about? That seems to me like a rather "butt hurt" feeling (you missed on bitcoin going f...

Re: End of bitcoin?

Yes, too bad the Winklevoss ETF was not approved. I'm not willing to short the thing in China, but an ETF would have been fun!
Are you looking to short bitcoin just because you don't agree with the idea, or you have some data backing it? Bitcoin is very volatile.
