I think you know the answer - it's just too long ago to be relevant, and it actually appears a bit pathetic......EQ

'Carbon' Job Market Poised For U.S. Takeoff

<t>QuoteOriginally posted by: KzooIt is annoying that irrelevant U.S. politicians are so stupid to create so much unecessary regulation (good for London). To say it can't get huge seems pessimistic since wars occur over energy. How do hedge Theta?

<t>Oh, for fuck's sake - with the exception of some very specific cases, if you are short theta you are long gamma, and vice-versa.If you don't like your theta position, buy or sell some options. It will change, I promise you.Buy a book - actually don't, but do come and trade options in my market.EQ...

what do you think of structured sales?

<t>One thing the markets have taught me - use your competitive advantage where it is greatest. In your case, you could be a mediocre quant for 5 years, or a salesman/structurer who has a better education than most of his/her contemporaries. To me, it seems a pretty obvious choice. As also noted - tha...

why do quants sit elbow to elbow with traders at trading desk?

<t>N - "most trading is done with computers". Volume of trades - yes, I would possibly agree, due to the rise in algorithmic trading and more efficient order matching. The idea that there are less traders today than there were in the late 90's - sorry, I disagree. The markets seem bigger and more imp...

why do quants sit elbow to elbow with traders at trading desk?

<t>788 posts, and you ask this question?????It's pretty simple - a good quant will learn more about the weaknesses in his/her model by sitting at the desk and seeing the way the traders use (and abuse) the model. A good trader will be willing to trade new models quickly IF they have seen inside the ...

difficult decision

My friend - a bit of advice based on your posts here.I don't think you have the risk tolerance to be a good trader. It seems you want somebody else (perhaps Dominic) to make the decision for you. That is NOT a good character trait for a trader.Best of luck with your decision.EQ

Alternative to Excel?

<t>I've recently changed job, and am now trading on a desk where the guys are a bit "old school" and Excel is the standard, rather than Matlab. It's been a real test, because they can all understand a spreadsheet and some VBA code, but they just throw their hands up when you try and encourage them to...
