Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

Describing the jet engine as a UK invention is a bit fanciful.

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

You missed the important bit about this not bothering him. I saw it alright. It's obvious that he does not care. He's alright Jack. The average WTO tariff level is 10% or less, so this will be compensated fully by the weakening of the pound. Imported luxuries will get more expensive, but #1 factor ...

Re: Gardening leave and notice period

Sometimes they get changed during your employment when the company "restructures", "simplifies" or "makes uniform" employment contracts :)

Re: Poland pays homage to the Gipper

I hope they will bend them over the barrel. It's the only way to teach the Poles the values of rule of law: hitting them in the pocketbook.

Re: Barclays and the LIBOR cartel

AFAIK the ISDA master agreements include clauses about what to do if the benchmark referred to in the contract stops being published. My guess is that increased OTC trade reporting will make un-traded benchmark rates irrelevant. It won't be a problem for e.g. IHS Markit to take all swap contracts ex...

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

It's actually quite funny for a foreigner to watch Americans wetting their pants over Russia doing to USA what USA has done to many other countries (including Russia in 1995).

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

Indeed, it doesn't look good for Trump. But... politicians like Obama or Clinton are also heavily dependent on extra-national powers: global capital, international elites. This is why they are flocking to Davos, Bilderberg meetings, this is why Obama's first public photo after he quit the White Hous...

National security-wise, Poles would be far more trusting in their European allies. Trust barbarians? http://www.dw.com/image/39606357_303.jpg I remember similar scenes from Polish towns when the opened first big electronics supermarkets with hugely discounted sales offers (Saturn, etc).

Re: Trump - the first 100 days

Any thoughts? et vincere nemo dividat A kind of Balkanisation IMHO. National security-wise, Poles would be far more trusting in their European allies, if Germans dropped their habit of doing bi-lateral energy deals with Russia. It's been a sore point of Polish-German relations for years, but so far...

Re: Trump - the first 100 days

Many Poles are enthusiastically, to the point of naivete, pro-American. "America" is a Polish idiom for "wealth, opulence, abundance, modernity and prosperity". "Uncle from America" is an idiom for a rich benefactor showering poor Poles with gifts. Every single POTUS vi...

It's summer, people are lazy because of the heat, bored and looking for entertainment. Of course they will flock to Trump. They'd also flock to Bono, Ozzy Osbourne or Lady Gaga.
