Re: Another Annoying Aspect of Bloomberg

Try trading on BBG when you have no direct link from BBG to the internal risk / finance / P&L system. That wrecks lives. :))

Do you all have different / random bio pics on BBG?  I've never cared to put one on my profile.  But a swanky cat would be amusing to say the least.

You didn't tell us you were North Korean. Doesn't go over too well with the Guardai. ;)  That being said, my chosen profession seems to always get me in like Flynn. :D The gardai at Pearse Street station have been trained to handle this. BTW, who's Flynn? And what about the pensioners at Burgh Quay...

Re: Oil Futures Contracts Names

@tagoma - Sadly the comment didn't come from a trader at my firm but rather a Rando Calrissian I met while drinking pints on Friday.  He was talking about his financial 'acumen' and at least managed to note the correct codes for oil futures settling in Dec'20 (CLZ20).  Instead of just saying "o...

maximillian: I would say make the investment in learning C++. You should have some knowledge of object oriented programming and C++ seems to be the standard for quant work. I learned from a book by Deitel and Deitel and it is very good for beginners to programming and also covers advanced topics. Pl...

Re: is twitter for mentally ill people?

@farmer: yes, it is. That being said, we tried to motivate one sports newscaster in the US to say 'ballgame' more often during the 2016 Superbowl via messages in twitter.  Some were game, this guy was not.  The guy refused to do it (don't ask me who it was, don't remember - I was the drunkard who de...

Sadly my photos are all too large to be inserted to this thread.  For whatever reason.  Any clues on how to best insert photos?  All of them are larger than 2MB.

Oil Futures Contracts Names

Hi there everyone,

Just for my own understanding - why is an oil futures contract called a 'bar'?  Is that short for BARrel or does it have to do with the oil price of gold (bar then referring to a bar of gold for a barrel of oil)?

Much appreciated!

The Abyss wasn't bad.  There are a load of other terrible underwater movies (Leviathan, etc.) which are ridiculous wastes of time. Fun fact: I watched Aliens vs. Predators at a movie theater in my college Dorf way back when. There was a meme floating around about new species finds in Antarctica.  T...

Who knows, maybe we all find out Trump is owed a tax return from NY and the federal government. :)
