Does CB issuance always depress underlying stock or is it hedge funds again!

<t>In current market conditions with premiums in their 100s-%, conversion/optionality of CBs becomes irrelevant. Same fate to the fad of zero CBs, coupons are back in fashion.Concerning the issue, would be interesting to check, is there anything written on that; and also would be ql to see what happ...

<t><<Are the United States a Fascist Democratic Republic?>>reminds me of this neat poster i saw i think in helsinki:adolf and junior in the background, in the foreground it says "different dictators, same shit"overall i think that all this banal-as-earth situation spurred a bunch of really cool joke...

american with divvies: is this normal?

<t>ok, so i have to american calls maturing, say, in june and july, and in may the stock pays dividends. black's approximation tells that i should use as a reference the price of the european on an ex-div date for both of them. now i understand that this is possible but i feel uneasy about putting e...

How can I simulate correlated random numbers?

<r>most widely used being the cholesky decomposition where A is a lower triangular matrix with positive diagonal elements.someone on the forum mentioned a link which explicitly shows how to perform cholesky decomposition: <URL url="http://ikpe1101.ikp.kfa-juelich.de/briefbook_data_analysis/node33.ht...

Computing returns as ln(p2/p1) and (p2-p1)/p1

well that's exactly the idea, what you can't do with 'relative' you can with lognormal ((+20%-16.66%)/2 = 1.67% is misleading while (18.23% -18.23%)/2 = 0% makes perfect sense).excellent points guys!

drift/monte/quickreference

<t>thanks aaron!luckily i am not approving anything with regulators, at least in the area of finance it's more like building FX scenarios to show what effects different hedging strategies have on a real bottom-linebut i guess, if i really wanted to use some sort of an interest-rate-differential-base...

drift/monte/quickreference

<t>hi there, just to checkwas it so that we use interest rate/convenience yield combo while simulating paths for pricing purposes (i.e. risk-neutral world)? and if we just want to simulate prices for say VaR (or some other use) what drift do we use? or is it just plain martingale?i reckon there was s...

Employee stock options

<t>Hi again,>>well, for reporting purposes options are expensed with the accounts publishingwell that is clear; take the current market value of the options and add to the costs endastory;what is a more subtle question is actually who is the contractual writer of the option. does the company buy the...

Employee stock options

<t>hello,a little bit off topic but intriguing enough:when employee options = company expenses it follows that if company earnings increase, so does the value of options, so do the company expenses and...the earnings decrease. or is it that these options are expensed just once and i'm completely off...

term structure/brainfood/question combo

<t>Hello again,Thanks for the reply, Johny.Basically I am forgetting for a second about the term structure modelling, looking just at the real data for LIBOR, and here are my "additional" thoughts:- if we start off with a combination of expectations & liquidity theory, then the "normal" shape fo...

Introduction to Volatility Smiles

<t>Hallo,I'm sure there will be more technically correct answers to your question in a short while, but just to get things started:- volatility smile: the fact that implied volatity is different across different strikes; typically implied vols are higher the more options are OTM or ITM; hence the mo...
