Experience vs Current Salary

<t>What would you aim to accomplish by being loyal to a firm in difficulty? First you are assuming they are going to get our of "financial difficulty" and are you then banking on the infinitesimal probability that they will become a billion dollar company and you will get rewarded? The first lesson ...

Dividend growth rate

<t>There is no hard and fast rule as to how the perpetuity growth rate is calculated. What LochWulf suggests is what is called in textbooks as the Sustainable Growth Rate, which is ROE * b in the case of equity, where ROE is the Return on Equity and b is the plowback ratio (i.e., 1 - Dividend Payout...

(Bloomberg) Max number of formulas in Excel

<t>I encountered the same problem with Bloomberg a few months ago when we were pulling data for many different securities. We had a spreadsheet setup with formulas that pull a bunch of characteristics for thousands of fixed income instruments. We didn't know prior to this that there was any sort of ...

Analyst Rating Data

<t>If you have access to FactSet (which is not free), you can get a time series of broker's recommendations, price targets, etc. for each company However, this is not a perfect solution but is as close to a solution as to what I think you want to get. The problem is that FactSet for whatever reason ...

CFA exams

I did. In my opinion, L2 is harder than L3 material-wise but L3 was just long.

Event Study for a Single Firm

<t>It depends on how you calculate your standard errors during the event window (constant or not constant), but you can come up with a variance over multiple days that you can use to calculate the t-statistic. Alternatively, there is a paper by Gelbach, et al. that applies a nonparametric test to do...

database for international emerging equity

I believe CRSP only has equity issues trading on a US exchange. I don't know about the UBS Global Securities Markets Index, but the first three should be on Bloomberg.

Need stock data(school project)

<t>Most academics are pretty open to sharing their data unless they got it from a source that prevents them from releasing the information. Some of the news wire services (e.g., Dow Jones) actually report large order imbalances but I don't know where to get the daily source of the order imbalances. I...

Options Data

Check out other libraries that may have access to Bloomberg. Most business schools should have a terminal. An alternative data vendor is Option Metrics. Unfortunately, I don't know how expensive it is though.

bond price data

If the bonds you are interested in are TRACE-eligible, you can get TRACE data through WRDS or Market Axess. Market Axess also reports some characteristics of the bonds.

WRDS/CRSP questions

<t>I use CRSP a lot for work and teaching. Why do you need the dividend adjusted price - to calculate returns? You can just use the holding period return variable in WRDS/CRSP and that will account for dividends. My understanding of the WRDS/CRSP SIC code from the Daily File is that it is the current ...
