Fixed Income Analyst at Lehman vs PHd Offer from MIT Operations Research

<t>It's a no brainer. I know people (from IIT-M) who went this route joining brand name companies but ended up getting stuck later. A job at Lehman may look like a great opportunity right now but you will need to arm yourself with an advanced degree later anyway. A bachelors degree from IIT and a Ph...

Non-interview interview

<t>I did this kind of thing when I was looking for a quant job two years ago. What I did was set up several interviews through contacts, flew to NY on my own and while there, stayed with friends (for free). From my experience, I interviewed for jobs which they had to fill almost immediately and so t...

Career change with MFE

<t>Hello everyone,I graduated with a Masters in Computational Finance a little more than two years ago. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a job in Finance right after my graduation. Several factors (no US citizenship, no money etc.) forced me to look outside of finance for a job. I have been work...

Bear Stearns FAST

<t>Hi,I have an interview soon with Bear Stearns' FAST division for the position of a quantitative "strategist". The postings in the past have not been too flattering either for Bear Stearns culture or for the role played by a strategist! I would appreciate it if someone could give me some informati...

Investment Science by David G. Luenberger

Yeah...this would an ideal book to start off with. The writing style is one of the best I have seen in basic books. It does brush some of the details under the carpet, but is a good book to get a flavor of what you can expect to be taught in finance courses.

wanted: C++ for scientific computing book(s)

There is Daoqi Yang's C++ and OO programming for Scientists and Engineers. It is not so much a good scientific computing book as it is a C++ book.
