Trading Lingo....

<t>I'm not aure about 'axed=asked' really, but the explantion is correct.'Axes' are simply natural interests/position. So that could be (for example) a bond sales desk sending out their axes at the start of the day to clients i.e. positions they have an interest in selling and are therefore likely t...

<t>Buy = Mine = Bid = Lift the offer = Take = (Pay in swaps)Sell = Yours = Offer = Hit the bid = Give = (Receive in swaps) = ("got lifted" in your Q above Fischer)For the interest rates market as a whole if you hear references to it being well bid, it'll generally be in PRICE terms. However, rate ma...

Trading Swap Spread...

<t>If you're betting on the spread getting wider you'd pay not receive on the spread and buy the bond, or pay on the swap with a cross. There is no simple answer to your question. Any other strategy will necessarily involve additional risk making it no longer just a bet on the swap spread - be that b...

simple Questions on Swaps

<t>No. If your net position is minus anything you are short (generally, although in market reality this depends where your short is - but for the sake of this msg just assume short).Back to basics - if you pay on a swap you are buying yield. You're betting rates will go up and prices will go down (l...

simple Questions on Swaps

<t>'Delta' - in swaps this is just market terminology for being long/short in futures equivalent. For example if you gave 100m 2yrs that's 20k 01 but can also be desribed as long about 800 deltaFixings - if you're paying 500m fixing, you would hedge the reset by buying the fra.And as dave says, gene...

1 month Libor settlement convention

Depends on the currency. Read through the BBA website for details but, for example, in usd spot (value date) is t+2 so if today was jan 31st maturity wouldn't be end of feb. Also need to factor in holidays (in the case of usd = NY/Lon, and weekends)

buffett and equity valuation

<t>You need to take context into account. As you say Buffet is a stockpicker with a very long investment horizon and deep pockets - meaning he can sit out losses, which psychologically is very hard to do (although easier than sitting out profits...). He's been saying stocks are cheap for a while - c...

I am outraged and I want action from Wilmottians residing in U.K.

<t>Have I been hallucinating, or have a number of posts on this thread disappeared? No great loss as they were quite ignorant anyway. On the point about children taken away for trivial reasons - that's true, but there are many more cases of children left in dangerous and/or abusive environments for t...

I am outraged and I want action from Wilmottians residing in U.K.

<t>While I commend your general call for help, what 'real' suggestions would you suggest? The movement you talk about should already exist...society - communities - families - schools - social services - the courts...This case is appaling but similar abuse goes on a great deal more than you'd think....

Carbon credit pricing

<t>Hi. I've been reading about this topic a fair bit and there seems to be little discussion of the inherent optionality of the basic 'right to emit' itself vs charge for emitting too much. I appreciate the floor and I'm also not referring to the real option opportunity cost of choosing to invest/no...

From Law to Finance, what should be the strategy?

<t>Kimura, it is completely attainable but will be hard work. I also read undergrad Law. Also opted for law due to family pressures and also found the realities of working in corporate law killed the dream about 'changing the world' etc... So I went to grad school and did a masters - in finance. Did...
