JamesH83, I'd appreciate you're take on this:You mentioned that HY Trading can be quantitative on "depending what you want to do exactly". What part of HY Trading would you categorically state as quantitative?

I'm aware that a CFA is useful for HY Research. But would HY Traders be interested in it? After all, the CFA is geared towards the investment management community.

I go to a liberal arts state school, and so even though my major is finance, it's not as in-depth as the stuff they teach at Wharton, Stern etc. I had to waste 2 yrs of my college life taking literature, politics, religion...As a credit trader, how quantitative is the analysis you do?

<t>MJ, I'd deeply appreciate your take on this matter: I've got an offer for a Trading analyst position with an IB in Interest Rate Trading. Now, my math skills are quite ordinary -- I've only taken a single math course in my 3.5 college years. Given this fact, do you think I can still be effective ...

<t>Thanks for the feedback Energy Quant. I think you're right about the attitude -- I may need to change it. If I decide to sit on the IR Trading desk, I can assure you that I'll be well prepared. Obviously, as a Finance major I'm not expected to take math courses, but that won't prevent me from pic...

<t>Thanks for the response. Why do Interest Rate traders have to be gurus in Math? Isn't that a quant's job? If I have model, as long as I'm proficient in using it, why must I care about the know-how that goes into building it? It should be obvious by now that I'm only but an amateur; but if you cou...
