Puzzle: Middle Office at Large Bank->TRADER at same, Who(m) here has actually done this?

<t>trading assistant --> traderthe transition should be clear from the job description. I think it's also good to ask during final round interviews (maybe during lunch) what percentage of trainees make it to be full traders... and the ones who don't make it, why don't they progress. I agree with the...

Puzzle: Middle Office at Large Bank->TRADER at same, Who(m) here has actually done this?

Hi,I'm a junior in college now and am looking to get a trading job after graduation. It sounds like middle office and back office jobs are pretty bad. What would be common job titles/duties for a middle of back office (so I know what to avoid)

Will start work this summer, could use some advice.

Do you have any idea of what percentage of trainees at susquehanna don't end up becoming full traders? Is it more than, say, the percentage of ibanker analysts who aren't asked to stay on for a third year?

'Tricky' probability problems web-site / book

I've never read it, but there's a book called "heard on the street" (don't know the author) that supposedly has a lot of good brainteaser type interview questions. you'll get questions like those plus probability (i.e. what's probability of getting 3 of a kind in poker)

Software Developer to Trader

Say you're a software developer for a large trading firm. How would you make the move from software developer to trader? Is this common?

Trading Floor to Trading Desk

Is it common to move from being a trader on a trading floor (NYSE, CBOT...) to being a trader on a desk in a bank? How about making the reverse move? What should one do to make the move from the floor to the desk?

papers on the resume?

you don't have to do a full siting of all your papers. Basically all people would be interested in would be the title of the paper, when it was published, and maybe what journal it was in. if you have 5 papers, you could probably fit it in on 5 lines of your resume (use abbreviations)

ropes and strings

the problem with your reasoning is that the flames DO NOT meet at the midpoint of the rope. They don't have to... the rate of burning is random (example: say 1 inch at the end of the rope takes 59 minutes to burn... and the rest of it burns in 1 minute)

Actuary vs quant

if by quant, you're talking about quant traders, I think the main difference between actuaries and traders is personality. actuaries are quieter... and a bit nerdier. traders are more competitive, and more fun. just my opinion

<t>stop trying tomake yourself sound smart! you're wrong.it's simple. if you burn the rope at both ends it burns twice as fast. so a rope that took exactly 1 hour to burn by lighting 1 end now takes exactly 30 min to burn. all you're doing is doubling the rate of burning... whatever that rate is. </t>

<t>you can time 15 minutes using just 1 of the ropes.light the rope at both ends plus the middle. Since the rope burns non-uniformly, one half of the rope will burn out faster than the other half. When this happens, light the middle of the part that isn't burnt out yet.The point is to always keep th...

Looking for a first finance job

<t>yeah, from my experience submitting your resume online doesn't get you anywhere. I think I got a total of 3 interviews off monster.com (very small success rate compared to on-campus interviews).I say going through your PhD advisor (and other grads from your department... some must be in quant fin...
