Job prospects with a Finance PhD

Hard to 200k+ at top US uni from European unis - you have to be the best of the best at LBS (or may be LSE) and very good/lucky. In industry, you'll start around 200k as well and will find out in a year whether you'll go above 500k.

MFE of MS of Financial Math with fin.aid

Why do you want to do an MFE? In fact, why do you want to do MEng? If you want to enter financial industry, why don't you do that right after undergrad....and yes, twofish is right.

PhD Financial Computing UCL vs Statistics LSE

If the aim is to be in the industry, financial computing program looks far more applicable and will get you the right job. It's broad as well so you can choose your area of interest and not have to focus on algos only.

Trader in New York

<t>There are some IIT grads who have been picked up by Wall St. straight out of school / India. Relying on that would be unwise. If you're serious, get admitted to a top engineering PhD program, take a couple of finance courses and drop out with a 'terminal MEng' once you find a job. This is the eas...

4 phone interviews with 4 different groups in Goldman Sachs

You've pretty much answered your own question(s). I think it's more like number 2. They're interviewing a lot nowadays and there are multiple groups where they feel your skill set fits (better) - you'll have to go through many more interviews though in case you keep passing them.

How easy is it to move after 3 years?

<t>For 1st year, the salary is around standard. 1) I don't think you need to wait for another year before moving. Since you've already spent 6 months of this year, I wouldn't leave before taking the year end bonus. Any other group that you join at this time will prorate your annual bonus by the amou...

Full-time PhD in ETH vs Part-time PhD Imperial College

<t>The idea behind PhD is to do research so it strikes me as odd that the person doing research has to pay for it as well. So I wouldn't recommend paying for any PhD. Having said that, if you're confident you want to be in the industry afterwards, go to Imperial (assuming this is a 3-day a week prog...

How many opportunities for a PHD not from UK/US?

<t>You won't know whether you sit at the bottom unless you send a lot of resumes. I think you'll find something good if you actively apply. If you're not doing anything at the moment then I would say you should get a postdoc and work with someone who also does math-finance. And not just anywhere in ...

quant jobs for Ivy League undergraduate?

<t>First of all, quant is a wide term. Secondly, there are many 'quants' with undergrad only. Rusti's question is quite relevant : are you doing an internship at the moment and if not, why not? You should apply for analyst programs in fall and once you're in a bank, you can always show your interest...
