<t>A "quant' role is a very generic term. You can get a quant role without even a MSc... but what quant role are you talking about?Recently "quant" roles have diversified, to encompass not only 'pricing' (where you work directly for traders to produce models), but also Risk Management, Validation, s...

The material IC cover is rigorous, it is a well known institution and there are many opportunities to join some of the best reseacrh groups out ...

MBA from India -> Quant? (confused)

<t>You have all COMPLETELY missed the point of this thread. Go back and read the original message.Timechaser,You are looking for a career with a 'quantitative bend'. Now, this rather depends on what you characterize as being 'quantitative'. Sorry, I am not familiar with many foreign schools so can n...

<t>What a dumb question.Name me a medical doctor who is worth 100 million. Can't think of one? No?.... You know why you can't answer this question? Because some professions allow you to get more rich than others. It's not rocket science, you seem to be reasonably smart, figure it out. Of course trad...

<t>Agree on the comment about Heskey. What did he do for Liverpool when they made that 'record' signing for him, let alone England? I dont think that we need to be worried though. It's been a long season for all the Arsenal/Chelsea players and I think that they just need a rest. England ALWAYS under...

<t>I interviewed with loads of people from different derivatives desks about 3 months ago. Interviews are short (half hour to 45 mins). Expect technical questions. I was surprised at my trading interview because it was more like a question and answer session with very little chemistry between myself...

Going to Imperial MSc Finance-meet your classmates

Imperial College used to guarantee accomodation in either IC halls or Uni of London halls for your first year. I don't know if this is still the case, but there is an accomodation office on campus which can help you if you get there before term starts.

Physics or Finance?

<t>What makes you think that a PhD in Finance will not prepare you just as well as a PhD in Physics? I do not think it is true at all. You already come from a strong math background. You already know a lot of the maths that you will use as a quant, and you have already developed the ability to learn...

Does anyone know good stochastic calculus tutor in London?

Why dont you just post your problems here, I'm sure people will reply. Problem is that you might get too many replies and the original question will be lost.

<t>GS are a TOUGH group to get into for quant work. He deserves £80k base just for passing the interviews. I am not surprised they didnt seem too bothered about the lack of C++, but I am assuming he had other programming experience? GS have their own in-house add-on to C++ (I forget the name but it ...

Imperial(UK) vs UMICH, Purdue(US).......

<t>I went to Imperial and would guess that the list they compiled is basically people they placed over the last 5-10 years. I am willing to bet that ANY of the well known universities can say the same thing (Kings, UCL, Warwick). Don't be fooled by statistics. At all the colleges that you mentioned ...

<t>100k is a bit ambitious isn't it?Typically I would have estimated the 30-60k range (sterling). Anything above does happen, but it is very rare, and you have to have really caught their attention (maybe you can just see complex algorithms in your head and code them up faster than anyone they have ...
