Re: Machine Learning and the physical sciences

I would say that "Bayesian neural network" was coined by some anonymous blogger. People googled and started using the term? Then it starts to lead a life of its own.

Re: Machine Learning and the physical sciences

Did you mean a Bayesian network or a Bayesian neural network? They are not the same.  No, And if they were the same one would be redundant. I am a mathematician and I try to avoid redundant words. I'm sure someone has tried to glue NNs with a posterior but my hunch is that it is a nasty fix and has...

Re: Python tricks

Stupid question:
I use VS2017 and I have all Python libraries installed, including anaconda etc.

I want to run anaconda navigator but

1. I don't see it on my desktop
2. I don't know how to run it from VS2017 (I don't even know if it is even possible)

Any ideas? Thanks!

There is an example of using julia for fast AD: https://wilmott.com/automatic-for-the-greeks/
I suppose Julia supports complex arithmetic?

Something, recently cold calls end up by sellers getting very aggressive>

Caller: you no doubt have heard that energy prices are going up next year?
Me: how do you know I know; I don't know but carry on.
Caller:We can offer 15% discount
Me: that's what they all say
Caller hangs up.

Re: If you are bored with Deep Networks

what do you mean by interpreting the method?

aka not a black box.

Or more accurate;y, I suppose interpreting the I/O as in nuerical methods based on models. AI seems to use data with no models.

Why do English-speaking countries still use cheques/checks?

It's so primitive and costly.

Re: If you are bored with Deep Networks

Has anyone had a look at  rekognition ? Unsurprisingly, it seems not without  controversy . In the old days the sales team fixes it in the next revision of the product. It is not so much the bugginess, more the scope for abuse. From a recent  write up : Last month, journalists at the New York Times...

And one of the first members of Haas Business School, voted #2 MFE school in the world 2018. Since the UC Berkeley College of Commerce (the direct antecedent of the Haas School) was formed in 1898, this is not quite right. And Mark was on the faculty for well over a decade before the Haas name was ...
