Career advice: further education (CQF, CPA, FSA etc.)

<t>Quote Although I have about 6 years expercience in ALM, my focus has always been the investment side of the equation. I do not really understand more than just the basic actuarial concepts and, as pointed out earlier, I believe that the further integration of financial theory and actuarial theory...

Career advice: further education (CQF, CPA, FSA etc.)

Well its a waste of time for dostojewski in particular, in my case I'm in my undergrad working my way up as an actuary. The money won't be as good, but at least its a well-respected profession and I wouldn't mind the low stress/decent pay environment.

Career advice: further education (CQF, CPA, FSA etc.)

<t>I'm currently on the 4th exam (Course C) of the required 6 on being an Associate, and I must say there isn't much "actuarial knowledge". With the newly administered system, I'm not quite sure how the rest of the 6 exams will look like, but up till now I'm still on the "basics" of actuarial scienc...

Career advice: further education (CQF, CPA, FSA etc.)

<t>Maybe I can shed some light, since I also work on the investments division of a insurance (Canadian) company.Almost everyone here is an actuary and some have CFA/FRM titles, and the only non-actuarial ppl I've seen are MBAs and MA-Econs.I'm not sure how other countries work out, but at least this...

UChicago, Courant, and CMU

<t>QuoteOriginally posted by: LTrainI will not question that more CMU students landed trading internships, but after the last ranting thread on university spin, I just have to ask how many Courant students actually WANTED trading internships compared to the Carnegie-Mellon students. Not everyone is ...

How about the Financial mathematics in university of western ontario

<t>I believe we share some similarities. I was drawn towards finance (but that was when I was in 1st yr undergrad in Actuarial Science), and to be honest my academics hasn't helped much in terms of financial mathematics. Then again, neither do the engineers and as long as you're smart/talented thing...

How about the Financial mathematics in university of western ontario

<t>Being a current undergrad in the Math faculty of Waterloo, I have never even heard of a quant-fin program at Laurier. And how you land sweet jobs like that will most likely be the b-school's connection more than anything. If you couldn't get into UW for undergrad math, I'm surprised you'd be a ma...

Confused Undergrad,,..."Do I have a Future??"

<t>Everybody here seems to be from top-notch US schools. So I've got a question,What about the Canadian schools? Are any of the NY/London firms interested in Math grads from Canada?I go to the University of Waterloo, which (quote) is the "world's largest centre in mathematics and computer science educ...

Internship and Career Advice for B.Math

<t>Looking through our co-op system, there are fairly few international positions in NYC/London as much as I want. Then there's always those crazy engineers that seem to get into all the quant/trading jobs. There's plenty of possible quants lying around on campus with much better marks. low 80s don'...

Internship and Career Advice for B.Math

<t>Sounds like I'm talking to a Waterloo-alumni if I'm not mistaken. So what's it like working as1) Trader2) Quant @ Big5 banks. And what are some requirements for traders? Because I can never get a dang interview for trading positions. But I'm still in 2B, so got a few more chances ahead of me.All o...

Quantitative Finance Enquiry for the Student

<t>I'm a student (undergrad) doing a Bachelor of Mathematics with a major in Actuarial Science (UofWaterloo, Can). I'm interested in finance (well, mathematics and its applications), so going into the field of a "quant" would be a logical next step. Both of these topics arouse interest in me, but I ...
