How long to wait after IB interview?

<t>There are many reasons why things might be delayed and you still get the job. If you are going for a graduate program there is typically a fairly standardised process to deal with the volume of candidates etc. This could get delayed for all sorts of reasons - interviews of other batches of candid...

Surviving in a group of slackers. How?

<t>I think MJ's comment is on the money - presumably you are doing this because you want to finish the PhD rather than having a paid holiday. Setting some targets is very helpful. You could try to get everything done to a sufficient level of quality in less than 18 months. If you have time left over...

Advice for getting into the electricity markets

<r>I'd agree with the previous poster. From my brief involvement with power I heard that it used to be that to make money you had to trade physical markets and have people on hand to do scheduling etc. (not sure if this is still the case) All of which is expensive & involves managing larger numb...

Non Compete Agreement

Another area to look at is whether you are compensated for being out of the market. I haven't seen any of these, but I hear that as part of the agreement the company pays you something while you are out of the market.-- Harry

Working at Citadel

<t>Ultimately you have to make the decision. All organisations have good and bad points. Perhaps I am somewhat biased, but I think the FTAP program is better than many other places. One other nice feature is that you get to move around between groups (they call it rotations) before you settle on a g...

Choosing a Thesis Supervisor

<t>I would say the main thing is to have a supervisor who is willing to take an active interest in what you are doing, has research interest that match with yours, and is someone that you can work with. You can probably tell quite a bit from their current research interests. You want to find someone ...

IT jobs in Ibanks

<t>Of the banks I've worked at (MS,GS), they viewed the intern programs as a cut-down version of the grad recruiting program. Pretty much by definition, intern programs are for people without industry experience. So I wouldn't worry too much about not having business experience. The interviews aren't...

which firm has best free food for quants

I've also heard about CRT - sounded very good, but very bad for the waistline. You get free food at Polygon (certainly in London, not sure about NY or HK). I've heard good reports.So... Kack, are you looking to move purely based on the food on offer - or are there are criteria involved?

Academic Hedge fund vs. Citadel

<t>Moti,You are right about the FTAP program being a technology one. What is good about it is that you get to see a number of different business areas before you settle on one long term one. I would suggest looking into it a bit more, technology in hedge funds and banks can be very different from wo...

work quality at hedge funds

<t>Actually - Citadel is more like a collection of smaller businesses that share a common platform. The range of business areas is pretty broad. In some ways this can be better than working at a smaller fund since you can make just as much of an impact on the business side but the platform (ops, com...

salary negotiation

<r>It sounds to me that the hiring firm has a number of people that could fill the role and they haven't made up their mind yet.Call the agent and ask what they think is happening. Unless they are representing another candidate for the same role they will be very keen to make the sale & should b...

Anybody works for a hedge fund here?

<t>I think a fair number of people who watch these forums work for hedge funds. You probably need to be a bit more specific with your questions. In hedge funds (and investment banks) there are many different types and sizes of organisation, and many different roles. Why don't you give us a bit of ba...

Video conference or flying to London

The other option would be to arrange a couple more interviews with other firms and get the firms to each pick up a share of the cost. If you are interested in working in London it's a good idea to see at least a couple of places to make sure to yourself that you are getting the best role.

terminology question, what is a slide

One place I worked (not statarb), a slide was just a range of input values & related model inputs. e.g. a slide on underlying price. [the same place also had a piece of code called the slide-o-tron - I loved the name!]
