The one I was thinking comes like N!*2^(N-1). It works well for n=2. For n=3 I would get 24 which is just half of what you get. Why is that not ok?

Why not N for the first, N-1 for the second, change row or column and have 2 picks for the first and N-2 for second, third row and column with 2 and N-3 and so on.

I think we have lost plane 2 around the 75 degree west anyway. If it should fly from 45 to 120 and back to 60 on a 2/3 tank.
