Drug Testing ?

at my bank, every new hire is drug tested. from secretaries on up. even the interns. similar policies exist at most ny banks.

A Trader's Typical Day at Work

rogers,to do my job well, or the trading job? i've actually never read hull; i skimmed the first few chapters and it didn't seem particularly useful. the program i wrote for that FX guy required knowledge of pricing the FX exotics, but i didn't need to know how to (in practice) hedge them.

A Trader's Typical Day at Work

<t>i worked pretty closely with the head of FX exotics prop trading for a few months. he got in around 7 am, left around 5 pm. he had about nine computer screens, four phones, and all kinds of other crap around his desk that he paid attention to at all times, but never really seemed stressed (althou...

econometrics?

<t>it's not used for derivatives pricing because you price under the risk-neutral measure. econometric statistics are gathered under the historical measure. you need an assumption about the utility function of investors to get to the risk neutral measure. there are some folks trying to do garch opti...

How to deal with transition probabilities in implied trinominal tree

<t>i'm guessing it probably won't be helpful to read those papers. if you've got the "implied trinomial trees" paper of derman, kani, and chriss, just make sure that you're reproducing their values. if you're implying the transition probs from some vol surface, you're gonna get negative probs, and q...

Phd in Physics or other?

<t>can't really answer that one. i don't have a phd myself, and i've never been to school in the uk. i can tell you, however, that everyone on my team has a phd from an american university. that could just be because, well, i work in america. but that's the facts. the undergrad degrees are pretty mu...

Phd in Physics or other?

<t>imperial has albanese and davis, king's has hughston, oxford (near london, i suppose) has dewynne and shaw, among others. i'm not from the uk, but those are the three that come to mind from papers i've read recently. don't know about funding/quality of instruction, but as an appreciative outsider...

Phd in Physics or other?

<t>to the original question:my personal opinion, as someone currently working as a quant, is that the finance phd in the UK is probably the best bet IF you DEFINITELY want to be a quant/trader. London is the place to be for quants right now, and is only gaining steam. NY is also good, but since the ...

VBA & C++ for beginners!!!

<t>tibbar--a function that shows up in the function wizard is not necessarily callable from VBA. this is a problem with a fairly complicated solution right now. have you tried it with mj's xlw solution? i'd be quite happy if what you said were true.mj--no VBA at all? not even for quick-and-dirty tes...

VBA & C++ for beginners!!!

<t>mj,sorry for the previous question, i was planning on looking at your files later today and wanted to put that question out there to make sure i wouldn't miss anything stupid. anyways: when i build the example .xll, i can call functions from excel. but what if i want to use these functions in vba...
