Re: Models for Covid-19 - analytics

lol and a happy easter to you to Dan

I think the currently accepted hypothesis is that there was a migration of covid from Europe to NYC, much like after WW1 where returning serviceman brought the flu to philly.

Wolfram has an interesting graph in the same notebook based on data from Singapore.

Re: Models for Covid-19

Oil and gas is easier. In the good old days when it literally gushed from wells and there was no self loathing over driving a gasoline powered vehicle, it was all ADI and peaceman + rachford. As it gets harder to extract and the price plummets due a generally flooded market and lower demand, it's n...

Re: Is the cure worse than the disease?

I'm not usually a fan of the don, but I like the cut of his jib this week. I'm still scratching my head as to why we had to upend the world markets for something that has yet to be as deadly as the various maladies the underdeveloped world face day in / day out. +1 tho for working under dressed by t...

Re: Models for Covid-19

lol nice sketch paul - the hospital needs the tesla logo on it tho.

My silicon valley experience was a lot like the tv show, but I did enjoy working on the hpc piece for a company scaling mri to whole population level. I admire tony stark, if anyone can get us out of this pickle, it's him.

Re: Models for Covid-19

What use cases could be tested? BTW the metadata is in EXCEL   https://forum.wilmott.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif I was always led to believe that ML/ANN only works when there is enough training data? So, how does it work for Covid-19? yes apologies Dan, I wasn't exactly specific :) Referring to...

COVID-19 Open Research Data Set https://pages.semanticscholar.org/coronavirus-research Thanks for sharing trackstar. Time permitting I might be able to lend some hpc/machine learning/numerical chops. A quick parse of the text did show that some researchers suspect the faecal-oral transmission route...

Re: How should we deal with the coronavirus pandemic?

I think there are going to more mental health issues with this virus/isolation than there ever were with world wars.
Agreed! Maybe a reflection of what I think the author of 'risk' expresses, or perhaps a dan airely/malcolm galdwell type - we've never been better off nor more paranoid/fearful

Re: How should we deal with the coronavirus pandemic?

Thanks for the links trackstar. Pretty calm here in tx, people innovating/coming together in small groups to have community/conduct business and just generally get on with life. Feels a little like hurricane season. The gallic gods of SLB have dictated we continue to work at home, and after week one ...

I'm sure greta had a pole with a nail on it and was studiously removing it on her voyage. there is also this genuinely helpful young guy working on it : https://mymodernmet.com/boyan-slat-ocean-cleanup/
