quant jobs in smaller places

<t>QuoteOriginally posted by: mathtypeThanks for the feedback. Charlotte and Santa Fe had actually been on my radar. (What is in East Setauket?) What I wonder though, is if firms in places like that are willing to train PhD's for entry-level quant. analyst roles? My impression was that the banks in ...

Hey, Check out these bonuses !!!

<t>I have some better than rough ideas, but we're really not supposed to share that.I will say that generally, there is no guarantee the first year. Also, I have not heard of a first year associate making a bonus equal to 100% of base. A bit surprised that the base numbers are so little known. I thi...

Hey, Check out these bonuses !!!

<t>$75k base is kind of low for a (front office) associate. I didn't realize ML and DB were doing that.As far as I know we are still paying $95k base, in New York, to entering associates. I know other banks which are paying $85k. Edit: I see one of them is in risk management, so that may explain it....

projections of supply-demand of quants

<r>The starting salary for new attorneys at the usual run of quality NYC law firms is now, as of January or so, $160,000. Elsewhere, $145,000 to $160,000. Plus bonus on top of that. How much working hours are for a commercial law lawyer with 7 year working experience in the US?

I don't have personal experience, but I understand its generally upwards of 2000 to 2400 billable per year. At least 10 hours a day, 5 days a week working plus some weekends. This depends on the firm or company, city, type of work, etc. Probably the wrong forum for this.

I suppose you could read all kinds of stuff into the vague language on the website. But you're probably right. Coding's fine as far as it goes, but otherwise it sounds kind of dull and annoying.Enough messing around. Back to work. Since the jobs report is out things have been hopping!

<t>It sounds like Wilshire is a pretty solid company, at least.Forgive my ignorance, but what do quants do at "consulting" type firms like this and Barra? Research and then present PowerPoints? Streamline banks' models (or, God forbid, code)?Being attached to a desk all day, I haven't had much acces...
