Re: RIP thread

Toni Morrison. Great author. RIP.
124 was spiteful. Full of a baby's venom. The women in the house knew it and so did the children.

Re: Education advice for a wannabe quant

Dear all, I am new to Wilmott forums and this is my first post. I am a CS undergrad, worked as a software programmer for 6 years and then a brief stint of 2 years as a risk analyst at a bank. My age is 33. I enjoy studying probability - games and paradoxes and the proving things from first principl...

Re: RIP thread

Chris Kraft RIP A hero of mine. RIP Did you have an opportunity to work with him or meet him, if you don't mind me asking? (I vaguely remember something about you working for NASA.) I wish on both counts. The closest I have come to Chris Kraft was I am acquainted with someone who knows his protege ...

Re: Rock on Rockall.

Again not a nice day there at all today.

Rockall. Easterly backing northeasterly 4 or 5, occasionally 6 later. Moderate. Occasional rain. Good, occasionally poor

N had no equal on Wilmott.
Agreed. I think he left just after I joined - might have down to the great schism. Either way he had such a brilliant in depth knowledge or he had a hunch on things that pointed to a very very deep understanding. I always wonder who he was and what happened to him.

Re: History of computing according to Wirth

Agreed. Very interesting. I did not who Wirth was, so was merrily reading it, realised that the person knew a thing or two about computing and hence looked him up. Interesting that he criticised C (and also interesting on further review Ritchie's comments).

Re: RIP thread

Murray Gell-Mann
RIP. I always love the fact that he and Feynman shared an office, and hated each other as Feynman had got a Nobel Prize and Murray had not. That said, he deservedly got one in the end.

Re: which movie should I see this weekend?

I ended up watching BBC's Civilisations series till the morning. Good stuff! I guess I should have asked about something more boring than I, because I love zombie movies! :-D The Game of Thrones craze (I had to google what are White Walkers) makes me worried about myself, though. Everybody watches ...
