How to move into Algo Trading and Stat Arb?

The big money has already been made in HFT, right now we're at the stage where every man and his dog will soon have an HFT capability. If you're planning on entering this area in 1-2 years time you're way too late imo.

Advanced C++ Interview Topics / Questions Wanted

<t>Unless you've actually used (and I mean in a real project) multithreading, smart pointers, STL, and whatever other titbits you choose to memorize, you're not going to fool any interviewer worth his salt. It is *very* easy to distinguish between an hardcore developer and someone who has crammed C+...

Career tracks: FO IT Teamlead vs Quant

London is a sinking ship, why would you even consider moving there and subject yourself to higher taxes, bad weather, ugly women etc.?Also, IT is in a transitional move to downtown Mumbai. Not a good career move IMO, I would pursue the quant/trading option.

How to find HF/Prop trading firm to trade your strategy?

<t>If you truely believe in those results I suggest you borrow some money from friends/family and leverage it to the hilt. If you really do have a strategy generating a Sharpe of 3+ there is little downside. Most people can live through a very shallow drawdown lasting a couple of weeks, which is wha...

P&L sharing agreements? Seed capital?

<t>It will be difficult to raise any funding at all if you only have a backtested strategy but no live track record, especially in the high frequency equity/option space since it is very easy to come up with something which looks great on paper but dire once real life slippage/latency/market impact ...

Starting out in "Quant Trading" discussion

<t>Most literature in the public domain is completely useless. I've read most of the books mentioned in this thread, a few are entertaining (e.g. Market Wizards, Way of the Turtle, Fooled by Randomness), some are just a downright ripoff (e.g. Pairs Trading: Quantitative Methods and Analysis). Readin...

Buy/Sell US stocks as close as possible to the 'Open price'

pdaley is correct. you can of course get the open price (at least for NYSE stocks) if you use a MOO order. perhaps you could infer an opening level from the pre-market or futures activity and use a MOO.if you really need to act on the official open i'm not sure IB will be quick enough.

The Scandal of Age Discrimination

<t>QuoteYou may think whatever you wish, but given your poor reading skills, and your rush to clutch at any straws rather than accept reality, your thoughts appear to be little more than muddled, mendacious fantasies. If you say so, but at the end of the day, I'm the 30 year old running my own book a...

How to answer: What capital, percentage and salary do you want?

<t>Given that your return estimate is based on a backtest and you've never really traded live money, I would really recommend starting out small. It will be a lot less stressful, and you'll learn a lot about coping with drawdowns etc. Also, if things go well more money will follow, if things don't g...

How to answer: What capital, percentage and salary do you want?

<t>QuoteI would say that unless there is something seriously wrong then a strategy that can generate 25% with a 7% sd is fantastic - you should ask for as much money as possible. if you were running a hedge fund you would get 2 and 20% - so thats about 7%. 2% from a management fee and 20% of your pr...

The Scandal of Age Discrimination

<t>Your posts are full of contradictions. You mentioned getting interviews on the basis of your resume then blaming the final rejection on your age. Obviously, a hiring manager is going to have a good idea of your age the minute he sees the resume. If he really was "ageist" he wouldn't have bothered...
