Is AACSB an important accreditation for a business school?

<t>The business school I was working in last year here in Australia had just completed their re-accreditation. What an amazingly drawn out process. Especially when renewal is fairly regular. While it does encourage better practice with the school, most of it seems to be superficial, procedural and p...

<r>As his work features in the first FE reading for most quantitative finance professionals around (in derivatives at least), I thought people would be interested in hearing of this. <URL url="http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/20081115TDY02311.htmApologies"><LINK_TEXT text="http://www.yomiuri.co....

Move to the UK

<t>I'll be in the same boat sometime from January - April 2009. I have a HH (maybe recruiter, not sure what the company is classed as) putting my cv at a few places. Coming from Australia I'm mostly interested in Energy or commodities (though I've been advised by a few people here to forget about UK...

hehe, well I think that both Dom, Paul and a host of members from the Asian and European regions may disagree with you.

Doctoral Dissertation Topic Generation Help Needed

<t>QuoteMost people develop a thesis topic after about 1 or 2 years of coursework inside their phd program. The purpose of that coursework is to expose you to the academic literature and show you potential topics. It's better to enter a program with an open mind. In fact, most programs seek students...

What is all the fuss with being a quant?

I'd hazard a guess that 80%-90% of the `how do I become a quant' people are purely asking because they see jobs here and on quantfinancejobs that have 150K-275K attached to them. Money is very often the prime motivator.

if you are going to take a MFE course in UK

Well from what is happening at present, even a PhD is not going to get you very far. Surely the notion of a `quant' internship as I assume you imply it is now from the past? At least for the medium term future?

When it hits the fan, a guide to job hunting in tough market

<t>Mabye these types of jobs are looked upon as fair game already, but I seem to read a lot about contracting roles being looked down upon. If these jobs are actually viable (and not just experienced and employed people passing their 2 cents) then maybe some comment on the types of contract roles th...

Is it necessary to have a PhD in order to be a good researcher nowadays?

If you mean an academic research position, then the answer is almost surely a big yes. If you are simply talking about the act of researching, then it depends on the person, available resources, what their hours at the patent office are...

What makes a quant good?

Well I'd say that to be successful at something you usually have to enjoy what you are doing!! So hopefully most industry people who are sitting behind their computers are there for more than a bonus!!

Centre for Computational Finance and Economic Agents from essex university

They also recently had a post doc going there in the same field (economic agents and comp finance), up till a few days ago anyway. On the topic of reputation, how is Cass looked upon? I'm talking here in terms of postdocs, not PhD. They seem to have some good links into industry.
