Re: Proof of the invisible

Thanks, but I'm looking for mathematical analysis of the such optimal solutions and proofs of their existence. I went through matching problems (stable marriage/Gale-Shapley, etc.) and optimal choice theory, but they don't refer directly to Smith, Hayek and faire tales. Did Smith think about benefic...

Proof of the invisible

hand... Does the theory attributed to A Smith have any mathematical justification, i.e. that a group of individuals making egoistic choices will lead to a solution beneficial for everyone? Can "beneficial" be understood as "optimal"? No trivial solutions like individuals with ide...

Re: Rainwater Collection and Gravity Well Systems: How to?

Oh, the hunger stones. I heard they show around the world, but honestly I saw one on Elbe in a random summer long ago. No climate change to worry about ;-) Seriously, where I come from we now have sandy deserts where used to be river depths. Ship and water plane transport has been on halt for almost...

I’m absolutely sure that all Irish universities are better than the country average.

Re: Physicists, Stop the Churlishness

The days are actually getting SHORTER in recent years. They used to get longer, until 2020 or so, which was an explained phenomenon - the moon is gradually receding from Earth (4 cm per year, from what I remember) slowing down its spinning. Now the spinning gets faster and the day shortens - for mel...

Re: Selection of Best Classical Music

I’m on an empty bus with a driver looking like cut out of the 80s listening to A-HA cover of Crying in the rain. Yesterday I saw him driving brick red Ford Escort in the nearby town when buying a fork and quality cat food in the Fjelleskjøpet. I like this place.

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown is a British journalist and author, who describes herself as "a leftie liberal, anti-racist, feminist, Muslim...person".
She needs to add transgender, lesbian and black if she doesn't want to drop out of her comfort zone.

Re: Stupid question of the day

Some comedian I like recommended Nordmen, but I dropped off at the summary - “hilariously brutal“ don’t even go together in my collocation book. I definitely don’t recommend Netflix. I found this channel on YouTube the other day: https://youtube.com/channel/UCfSEQNu2QqwjlbbTYLNP5iA There are true ge...

My Taiwanese friend claims that Taiwanese are better brought up, both w/r to moral standards and manners. They indeed seem straightforward and genuine, while I find some Chinese fake and insincere.

Re: Google's Carbon

Embarrassing display of smear and mockery towards one person, for lack of better arguments, compounded by elitism. If the existence of a large legacy code base becomes the main or the only reason to convince people to learn C++, while its issues are not fixed, the generational turnover will kill it...
