Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

But, frankly, relative to what Trump is in the process of doing to the world, Brexit is somewhere between a hiccup and an afterthought.

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

Obviously, anybody against Brexit is a hypocrite. That should go without saying. They may not have wanted Corbyn, but they'll surely get him. Of course, that applies to all those upstanding Brexiteers, too.

Too late. We are now in an era of intense de-globalisation. Courtesy of, well you know who...

Re: UK and the EU: In or out?

Taking a page from the Trump playbook (I hereby order all business to do my bidding!), BoJo is looking to close down Parliament for five weeks in order to avoid the "undemocratic" backstop. Nothing democratic about Parliament, right? Fuck them!

Re: Brexit - the last 50 days

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/no-deal-brexit-rubbish-north-south-landfill-eu-boris-johnson-a9076051.html No-deal Brexit could see rubbish from the south sent to the north, industry insiders admit I guess that will actually generate some jobs, which may otherwise be in short supply...

Re: Final Thoughts

Friday! Thank you Gods!
Kind of hilarious:
I know that building! It is the first “tall” building I have a memory of - from a train trip to Oslo with my father at the age of four or so.

Re: Your rants here

I think religion is still more problematic, but there has certainly been convergence. I could in principle see dating someone who would vote for a different party than me (even out of only two choices) if we were broadly in agreement on what is good and what is bad in the world, and the different po...

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

Quote of the day (so far): “My only question is, who is our bigger enemy, Jay Powell or Chairman Xi?”

In case you forgot, Powell was nominated by Trump as Chairman of the Fed.

Re: Your rants here

The two worst books ever are Fountainhead and Hitchhiker's Guide. And everything by E. Waugh. And Morrissey's autobigraphy. Amongst the worst books ever are... But I disagree on Douglas Adams. While his plot lines may sometimes have been a little convoluted, I find that his creativity and mastery o...

Re: Brexit - the last 50 days

“ I thought that I would finally see if it's true what happens to men there when they age...” Disregarding the issues of sample size and selection (a case of a convenience sample if I ever saw one), what was the null hypothesis? That it goes brown and starts sprouting little white hairs. Don't tell...

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

He has probably only seen Greenland on a Mercator projection map, and thinks that it’s really big. And shiny white. He likes big and shiny. And white.

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

And for the trifecta: Epoch Times, a small New York newspaper closely associated with the Falun Gong/Dafa thing (religion, cult, spiritual, political, whatever clusterfuck) is the second biggest advertiser for Trump on Facebook over the last six months, after the Trump campaign itself. The little ol...

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

Sorry, I usually try to limit these to once a day, but really?? Trump just cancelled his state visit to Denmark (by tweet, of course), scheduled for early September, because the prime minister had the temerity to suggest that he couldn't buy Greenland and the little eskimos who live there: "Denmark ...

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

The great  Talmid Chacham in the White House has decreed that any American Jew voting for a Democrat is showing “either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty”. Because any true Jew would obviously be enthralled by the great King Trump and his prophet Bibi Netanyahu. And, by the way, fuck th...
