Re: Scaling/Shifting an empirical distribution

Aside from the low sample size, there is also an intended change of measure taking place here. It is possible that if we knew a bit more about the nature of your problem we could be more helpful. Like, maybe a multiplicative adjustment could be more appropriate than Alan’s additive one. Or, I guess,...

Re: Is the type of mathematics found in finance limited?

Mandelbrot himself wrote a book on the topic some 15 years ago. “The (mis)behavior of markets”.

Re: norway

Interesting thing I've learnt from a local today during a countryside walk. We encountered a black small snake sleeping by the road. It turns out that Scandinavian adders can be blackberry sometimes - an adaptation to better absorb light! Still part of the population preserves the lighter colouring...

Wow - those things are big! Not my doing, so I’m assuming there is an AI at work sizing the emoji based on topic. Much appreciated!

Happy Birthday to Donald Trump today! : D

🤢🤮

His minions in 14 states have now got legislation in place to ensure that he (or his family) cannot lose the next time around, regardless of the voting outcome.

No, the autumn hunt is a major event in some circles.

Re: Apocalypse (Revelation) Biblical explanation.

I’ve heard of this thing. Wait - I had this thing! So, I should be lead to believe that AE’s god tried to strike me down, but narrowly missed? Or, that it was just a warning? Like, get rid of the dog and cut down on the sodomy, and we’ll call it a deal (for now)? As I understand, 127 000 corpses is...

US fisherman says 'humpback whale tried to eat me'

https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/0612/12277 ... -humpback/

Same happened to Jonah. In those days they called it a 'big fish'.

Yes, evidently not kosher on account of it being a fish without scales. Same thing with jellyfish.

Re: Stupid question of the day

We obviously read/watch different versions of mass media. In my world, there is a tendency to ask “why was he allowed to buy semi-automatic rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition?” I know the answer is that the second amendment guarantees every (white) half-wit the right to unlimited firepower...

An excellent development is that said Miami BTC conference has now been confirmed as a Covid super-spreader event. Yay!
