Re: Stupid question of the day

He was in the box, right? Or not. I guess we’ll only know once we open it

Frankly, me neither, until I read something about it this week.

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

I could be wrong on this, but it is my understanding that the current indictment is for crimes committed under NY state law. A resulting conviction would not be subject to presidential pardon - that only applies to federal convictions. And the NY governor may or may not be inclined toward offering u...

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

The ultimate bleeding head right wing nut case, Ron DeSantis, has declared the union of states no longer a thing. Because, he’s not going to give up the felon to New York.

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

So he is now indicted, although on a pretty minor charge that certainly doesn’t warrant the capital punishment he has so well deserved. But it is a start. Yay!

Re: do I really need a recruiter?

You keep on using the phrase “my recruiter”. I don’t think that is a helpful perspective. Also, while “the company” may not care, I can assure you that somewhere within that company there are people who are paid to care about headhunter bills. Quite possibly including the hiring manager, whose budge...

Re: do I really need a recruiter?

Well, in my experience (but as the saying used to go, YMMV) you don’t have a recruiter, the hiring manger does. He, she, or they is/are paying the bill and have a very good claim to obtain value for their money. If you encounter a recruiter who expects you to pay the bill, the advice is “run!”. So t...

Re: do I really need a recruiter?

Have you tried to inquire with a barber as to whether you need a haircut? But seriously, as a hiring manager (which I have been on dozens of occasions), I would prefer a direct approach or, even better, a referral from my network to a referral from a headhunter. That being said, at least three of my...

Re: Basic fixed income question: the meaning of "one month ahead"

There are technically three separate but closely related concepts at work here: business day conventions (like modified following), holiday calendar (like NY banks), and daycount convention (like 30/360). Each has real life subtleties, so the combinatorics can easily get out of hand.

Did you know that two or more black swans together on land or in the water can be properly referred to as a bank?

Re: Happy 1st International Day of Happiness

My reading of most of these studies is that rather than inquiring about actual happiness (which is probably really hard to pin down), they add up a lot of vaguely related statistics and then tell people: “look at your great numbers - you should be happy, damnit!”

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

And, lest there be any doubt, I’d be pretty comfortable killing any of the Trumpian hooligans out there. Which is just about where we are now. This is not like that little Brexit joke to which our sponsor is so committed. That only screwed a few million people. Whatever! Trump is a festering sore of...

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

So, barriers are up downtown to restrict the Trump mob, just in case he is arraigned tomorrow. Of course, in a reasonable world he would be on death row in a federal prison somewhere, but a few nights at Rikers Island wouldn’t be all that bad. OK, a pale substitute, but we’ll take whatever crumbs we...
