Columbia's which program? MSFE or Math Fin?Either way, I would still say go for NYU since it's very math-oriented and has good job placement. My $0.02.

MSFE, To answer your friend's question, I would stop by Polytech's career office and verify the % of graduates getting the jobs and their salary ranges. But obviously, UMich has a better brand name...
