career advice for a young computer science grad

<t>I've mentioned this in another post, but just realized it was fairlyold and so I don't expect a response. I know of a quant developer jobin NYC that wants expert level C++. It was beyond me but I'm surerelatively easy for someone who does it for a living. PM me if interested. I've said this previ...

Is Prime random ?

<t>Primes are predictable in the sense that the via a limiting process of analytic functions one may derive pi(x),the prime density. This in turn depends upon establishing zeros of Riemann's zeta function, the subject of thefamous (as yet unproved) ERH which says that all complex zeros have real par...

a BS interview question (was I wrong?)

<t>Hi Folks; My brief yet tragic attempt at a financial engineering career ended recently. As part of a second round interview I had to answer a BS problem, pricing a straddle (using BS) in the limit where sigma x sqrt(T) << 1 for part one of the question, with IC's K=S_0, r=0. I summised that the pu...

2 yrs experience researcher + phd = (or not) job as a quant ?

<t>Hey JM;As with graduate school, I only applied to one place for a fellowship. My bosses are hopelessly disorganized yet well connected and niceto me. I probably could have used them more but as with all advisors it'slike pulling teeth. And then you need to hit the turps pretty bad.Which brings me ...

Hi TraderJoe;It's a condensed matter (physics, experiment) project, for a period of two years (I think).I've just finished my PhD which has been in a more theoretical vain, dealingwith Solid State NMR/simulation/ab-initio calculations/atomic modelling etc etc for Relaxor Ferroelectrics

<t>Thanks energydude (for points a and b!) that does explain a lot. I guess I should be thankful a HH was willing to take a gamble with me. I am meant to hearsomething from DE Shaw in the next day or so (I contacted them directly andthey also were very positive) but beyond that I guess it's the fell...

2 yrs experience researcher + phd = (or not) job as a quant ?

<t>Hi Folks; For my initial post, I thought it best to stay with this thread rather than start a new one, apologies for anyperceived (or real) hijacking. I am also an over-worked, malnourished physicist seeking to leave the chilly climes of the cloister. Like jmb (perhaps like many) I wonder about th...
