Re: Pressed to sign contract quickly

I don't see that you've done anything unethicval or indeed that anyone has yet done anything unethical. It is the job of the recruiter to badger you, since he knows there is probability >0 that someone will jump in and offer you more or that a more attractive job may appear. He only gets paid for yo...

Re: Quickest way to parse this data into CSV for input?

I think that a mix of sed and grep will do this, certainly I've used them that way.

If we had a sample, it would be easier to help.

Re: Big Data and Deep Learning, a technology revolution in trading or yet another hype?

I was using the word 'proff' in the model validation sense, rather than starting from axioms, ie 'proof' by 'we did it last time and the regulators didn't whing'

Re: Big Data and Deep Learning, a technology revolution in trading or yet another hype?

As a rough rule, if you're reading about a given technique being sucessful and profitable, it's mined out and by the time you master it, no longer as valuable. It's use in Risk is problematical. Traditional statistical techniques allow us to say that given past data we have a probability of a given ...

Re: Python 2 or 3 more common in finance?

It's not just HH, there is also HR and the formless hell called Resource Solutions.

publish or sell?

<t>To expand Paul's point, think of it as a net present value calculation. The effort you have already put in as investment is sunk. You are where you are and the optimisation is to get the most from it going forward. Then we add in risk. There is some non-zero chance that this work is not as valuable ...

TCS PhD student looking for advice on internships

<t>I'm mildly surprised their campus recruiters haven't found you, despite most (male and female) campus recruiters being chosen for physical attractiveness rather than intelligence. They do tend to prefer students who are further along with their PhDs.A bit of econ helps at interviews.Paul Wilmott's...
