Re: Those crazeeeee Dutch

Was just about to post about the seaworthiness of this vessel - you beat me to it! On the size - the specifications are well documented, whether the Ark actually existed or not: "The structure of the Ark (and the chronology of the flood) are homologous with the Jewish Temple and with Temple wo...

Re: What is democracy?

If, as seems increasingly likely, the US descends into a one-party form of government loosely modeled on Belarus, I predict that the word manchin will enter common usage. It will probably have a subtly different meaning than quisling, but the latter has slowly slipped out of most people’s vocabular...

Re: Excel tricks

A lower tech solution would be to invoke it via a shell() command from a VBA sub. It’s an asynchronous call and you can’t directly communicate data from (or back to) the workbook, but it shouldn’t be too hard to work around that.

Oh Noah: Ark stuck in English town because it is not seaworthy https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/06/oh-noah-ark-stuck-in-english-town-because-it-is-not-seaworthy/ The ex-owner of the Ark is from our village (where the shops are closed on Sundays, a bit like Ballymena..) it looks a bit wobbly https...

Re: FIVE hundred years from now: can you predict the Software Landscape in anno 2525?

I did read the whole Dijkstra speech, and it is certainly a lot more coherent in context than the list of bullet points you excerpted. Not sure if I agree with his points, but it has been my experience in a quant finance context that CS majors lack in practical programming skills relative to compute...

Re: The vaccines

Bleading head republicans (and, for clarity, at this point there is no other kind) are about to commit a character assassination of Dr. Fauci. Because Trump be good! Fauci caused the China kung flu, and vaccines be bad!

I have a nagging feeling that your talents may be underutilized in your current role of cat comforter, vegetable grower, and baked goods optimizer, but it’s your utility function to manage!

Of course, I can’t speak for Paul, but that doesn’t strike me as coming close to a ban-worthy offense. Now, posting a question in the general forum full of obscure abbreviations, perhaps more so.

Re: Denmark's Delights

Fox News is a good source indeed-. They also have great stuff in the politics section on their website!
I’m a little confused. I didn’t know they had a non-politics section.

Re: Denmark's Delights

Following the comments under a Fox News story is like (working on a suitable analogy...). I don’t want to insult slime eels, but they do come to mind. Sorry, they are apparently known as hagfishes in polite company.

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

So he is now predicting that he will be reinstated by August. Whether installed by a military coup, as called for by retired general Michael Flynn at a QAnon conference this weekend, or by Putin directly, it’s a disturbing thought. Supported eagerly by tens of millions of American idiots.

Re: End of bitcoin?

So now we have had, in short order, gasoline supplies and then beef supplies shut off. Ransomware as service, with secure payments courtesy of Bitcoin. An invention that serves no other purpose and consumes enough very dirty energy to make Elon Musk blush. EMP attacks on certain Russian locations ar...
