What happens to Lehmans all the massive quant / trading research ????

<r>Hysterically, the guy who was global head of rate technology and analytics at Lehman was formerly the head of quantitative analytics technology at Barclays Capital. I can't preicsely remember whether he jumped or was pushed, but I think it was the former before the latter became inevitable.Althou...

I have come to bury TJ and not to praise him.

Agreed, his SNR is comically bad. I would rather see the option to ignore people though, as he could easily create a new account if the "TraderJoe" one were blocked. Mind you, I'd also like to see the forums run on a machine more powerful than a Commodore 64. Here's hoping.

Come in to discuss: What the impact of fed's bail-out of AIG? How the US will survive from the crisis? another war?

I'm going to get myself bailed out by the Fed this afternoon. It's what all the hip kids are doing. Getting bailed out is the new black.

LSE - Diploma for Graduates in Mathematics

Depends what you want to do with it. If you want to take your pure maths to not-quite-a-masters-but-pretty-close level then go for it. I doubt it's going to make you Top Quant at your favourite investment bank (if any of those are still solvent by the end of today) but it won't hurt you.

MSc (ISIB) @ University of Reading

Why Reading? As far as I know it's hardly a hotbed of international finance research. Oxford courses are supposedly awesome, Warwick apparently has a good reputation, and the London universities are never a bad bet.

ITH Article: Financial engineers thrive despite the subprime mess

<t>I read this article and was quite annoyed with its tone, attempting to pin the current situation on quants. I am not a quant, but have spent a long time working in banks and with the front office. I know well that once the sales people and structurers have decided that they want to sell a new pro...

PRMIA vs CQF

It looks like one's about Pricing and one's about Risk. So it depends on whether you want to work in pricing or risk. Neither of them are worth a bean unless you've got an postgrad academic qualification to back it up (in my humble opinion).

Suggested Interview Questions To Ask

QuoteFrankly, I like to ask questions as they occur to me, related to the background or not; I like “scruffy” thinkers.Oh yes, that will produce superb results. You might as well just sit there and say "Can you guess what I'm thinking about?".

c# book advice

The most important C# book by far is "CLR via C#" by Jeffrey Richter. It won't teach you the language, but it does expose precisely what's going on under the covers. Whether that's important depends on whether you're prototyping or building enterprise systems, of course.

Birkbeck MSc in Financial Engineering

<t>I started the course several years ago, when it was still very focused on economics. I found doing microeconomics tedious, and dropped out after a term. I didn't find the quality of teaching that great, with lecturers on a number of occassions simply not turning up - although sadly the microecon ...

Certified Trading System Developer (CTSD)?

<t>I had a look at the "sample exams" on their web page, and they are full of crap. The programming questions are almost certainly lifted from a Brainbench test, and anyone who's taken one of those will tell you how useful they are - not very. The "trading strategies" examination is hilarious, the o...
