Re: Snooker

As an American, I know this seems pretty strange but I think it's one of the cooler games out there. This is one of the reasons I don't trust your judgement on PDEs! Pure mathematicians play snooker: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/money/2017/02/10/JS119934638_Rex-Features_Various-Snooker-1...

Re: PWOQF, expected hitting time

Cuch, For me I think of pencil-and-paper solutions of PDEs as being really, really easy to screw up. But that's just me. Think of the original solution to Black-Scholes. There are a thousand ways to goof up on the way toward transforming into the heat equation. That's interesting because I would sa...

Re: Models for Covid-19

There are many reasons. One of which is that it is their job! And that job is made harder, and more interesting, by specialists not agreeing. If it was easy, etc.

The only specialists you can rely on are economists. Because they are always wrong.

Re: PWOQF, expected hitting time

@Orbit: I'm guessing, because I haven't looked at this for decades, that on integrating the  dC/dt' bit you can add any constant you like. (Although this never gets mentioned explicitly in textbooks.) I chose -1 to simplify behaviour at infinity. Etc. Is that all you wanted? I think Alan's answer is...

Re: Nouvelles de France

I liked the French entry in the Eurovision this year. That sort of song is one of the things the French know how to do well. Caveat...never translate a French song, the lyrics never fail to be embarrassingly bad.

Re: eurovision results are out

To be fair, the UK song was the worst of the lot!

After recent events I do think that the BBC should be banned from anything to do with current affairs, except Crufts and Eurovision. And I'm not sure about Crufts.

Re: Nouvelles de France

Does they dip their croissants in the coffee?
I googled "Napoleonic code" + croissant + café + dip and got only 1,850 results. This suggests that they don't.

I think I might be being too obscure...these artists only seem to want rights without responsibilities. What "rights" does one actually utilize in practice?  Well, thinking about those artists and also the current legal status in much of the US: The right to get stoned and pontificate all...
