Which new standards of C++ are needed for the quant job market?

For C++ quant positions, which of the new standards of C++ are generally considered essential knowledge (and tested in interviews)? Is it essential to be familiar with the C++11 changes? How about C++14?Thank you,CommodityQuant

From quant to sports betting industry (and back?)

<t>QuoteOriginally posted by: MattFQuoteYour example isn't quite right. From quant to sports betting industry (and back?)

<t>A clarification: When I say "you will get kicked out if you win", I mean that bookmakers are (of course) not happy to retain customers when there is evidence that the customer's wins will be greater than the customer's losses in the long run. How about betting exchanges rather than bookmakers? I ...

<t>Quotebut the barrier to trading in most sports markets is pretty lowYes, in the literal sense that you don't need to invest much money. However, the spread is enormous compared to financial trading. For example, in a tennis match between equally good players, typical odds are 5/6, 5/6. In financi...

<t>Quote"Forward" implies some sort of absolute direction and if your ambitions lie in the direction trading, it could be a good move, thoiugh less for classical quant or risk work.I don't quite follow why you think this. Do you believe there are closer similarities between financial trading and spo...

Marketing oneself when in between jobs

<t>I had a quant role which recently ended after five years. What are some good ways to present this employment gap on a CV/interview? Or should the topic just be omitted by simply having the heading "Employed from ... to ... 2014" without having a what-I'm-doing-now section. I believe Dominic sugge...

QuoteWhen x > e is it monotonically increasing? Yes.I shouldn't have said that this method is not straightforward. As a punishment to myself for that, I'll abstain from strawberry-banana smoothies for the next week.CommodityQuant

<t>Look at the logs of the two sides. Is pi > e * log(pi) ? In other words, is pi/log(pi) > e? Let's now differentiate x/log(x) and examine its value at pi. The derivative is (log(x) - 1)/log(x) ^ 2. The derivative is positive for x > e. Therefore pi/log(pi) > e/log(e) = e. Yes, pi > e * log(pi). Th...

<t>As a quant job-seeker, I find this a very interesting and useful thread. After a prospective quant has studied such pdfs, I'm not sure how the knowledge can be used to get a job, although I agree that this info could be very useful once one is already employed. The problem is that, in my experien...
